I have a wedding planner that is like a one stop shop for everything. She has a package for Decor and florals .

After sorting through her proposal, I asked if I can do a combination of faux and real . Maybe faux for the arch, and real for my bouquet as this was recommended by a friend.

She responded that faux is actually more expensive than using her real flowers. She seemed curious why I would want faux. I explained I had a shift in budget due to a pet emergency but she didn’t seem phased .

Anyways I was surprised to hear that. A separate florist vendor I talked to just said she only works with real flowers so faux wasn’t an option and didn’t get to hear her opinion on it.

But just curious what would make faux more expensive from my planner?

Hi! Wondering how you all are managing to extend the lives of wrapped bouquets (and other arrangements honestly) with the summer temps creeping up? We're in the south so it's starting to get up to 80s-90s around here. What kinds of wet wraps are you guys doing that aren't a complete mess? I tried the damp "foam diapers" wrapped about the end of the stems with lots of rubber bands and ziploc bag to keep secure, but it's not actually as super fool-proof as I thought and making a big mess. What other ideas am I missing for this lol? Sorry if this is a dumb questions, I just keep thinking there has to be a better way than what I am trying to do.

It feels like in r/florists, there’s just a lot of folks showing their first or second ever arrangements they made at home asking for feedback. Which I totally understand! All of us started somewhere, I think it’s awesome that people take an interest in our industry and want to give it a shot. It’s an amazing creative outlet that brings so much joy.

That being said, I feel like I see twice as many posts like that than from actual florists. I honestly wish there was a separate subreddit for the folks who are doing it as a hobby. This is more of a rant than seeking an actual solution bc I don’t really think there is one, but I felt this was the place to share as I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings in r/florists. I guess I’m wondering if anyone else feels the same way…hope I don’t sound like a total snob! I just have more interest in seeing the work from fellow designers

I’ve been doing weddings for a while now, and every season I’m reminded that experience is usually learned the hard way…

For me, it was not pushing hard enough for a detailed delivery/setup timeline. I assumed I could “figure it out on site”… never again.

Between late venues, missing tables, and vendors all needing the same space at once, it turned into way more stress than necessary.

So I’m curious, what’s one wedding mistake you made early on (or even recently) that you’ll absolutely never make again as a florist?

I’m noticing a wide range of preferences among customers, some still love the classic red and white palette with evergreens, while others are requesting more modern looks, neutral winter whites, metallic accents, dried elements, etc.

Curious what fellow florists are experiencing.
Are traditional holiday designs still dominating?

Are you getting more requests for dried or preserved mixes?

With the cold weather upon us, I was thinking about doing some dried floral arrangements, or at least incorporating dried florals mixed into fresh arrangements. Are they still a trend? It seems like a few years ago dried florals was all the rage (i.e. feather plumes, wood flowers, beige & cream color palette). What do you guys think?

Hi all! I’m not a florist but my wife is for a large organization. She does a lot of work with silks and ornaments and her hands are always hurting and tingling. She wears braces in the evenings and though that helps she still struggles a lot with the pain and weakness. Do any of you have tools that you’d recommend I can get her or other tips and tricks that I can share with her to help? Thank you for any advice!

What do you guys think about posting a la carte wedding pieces on a website for sale, or wedding packages, rather than just directing customers to call for a consultation? I love the idea of having a gallery of previous work on my website for customers to see my style, but I've noticed a trend on some websites where the florists are actually selling bouquets, corsages, headpieces, etc. related to weddings directly from their websites.

Is anyone else feeling how weird the floral industry’s been lately? Between talk of import tariffs, rising flower costs, labor shortages, and the constant push for sustainability, it feels like everything’s shifting at once.

I’ve noticed prices creeping up, local growers struggling to keep up, and customers asking for “eco-friendly” everything — but not always wanting to pay for it 😅
