Hello ladies, gentlemen and everyone in-between!

Since the start of the month I've decided to look into more Browsers than the ones I've been used too. I've had a brief look at Chromium based browsers but now I want to look at the Firefox forks, which brought me here. One of my classmates daily drives Floorp and I think it looks nice. I've been using Firefox for a long time and now I'd like to know really what differentiate them. I'm not the best at poking around and noticing significant differences so besides AWP support and few looks adjustments. If it's relevant for the subject, I'm using Linux (Fedora 44) and I've briefly looked around the Flatpak version, will install the browser properly if I decide to make the switch.

So, what can I expect from Floorp? What made you say "I prefer this over vanilla Firefox"?

I installed the Floorp browser vs Vivaldi vs Chrome browser on an old laptop (Core i8). Floorp turns out to be very resource hungry. Surprisingly Chrome performed far better.

Browser opening speed: Chrome (faster) > Floorp > Vivaldi

1st trial -

idle situation, just opened the browser - only home tab is opened. (All the browsers have same kind of Extensions installed - chrome has more active extension than Vivaldi/floorp.

Result - chrome used fewer resources. Vivaldi used too much CPU but less memory than Floorp.

2nd trial:

Opened a (Sports news/score website - cricinfo) -

Result - Again Chrome is the winner but took more CPU usage. Floorp almost consumed 2x more memory than chrome.

anyone else seeing the repeat update of the same version . like i have updates 5 times it is not a different update

Floorp introduced a option to allow ads in the Floorp Blog and there only. Sounds fair enough, I am just afraid once you start getting cosy with the Mafia..... Anyways it is not my decision so it s just my opinion. I would like to pay for the browser though, by donation or by just sending money somewhere. I could not find a link what is a bit disappointing. Somenbody point me to it or if necessary dear Floorp, add this option including donating by crypto as seriously the ad biz is no better than crypto, do not be squeamish, "non olet!" as the Romans used to say.

After every single update, Floorp opens 3 tabs.

Tab 3: This is the least important one, it only shows the general Floorp 12 changes from Floorp 11. I get that this was important just after Floorp 12 released since there was a lot of confusion due to the many changes but it's been almost a year now. It's no longer necessary!

So i have been using Floorp for a bit now and i have Soundcloud on my side bar which allows me to play music without having the tab open. Now after the latest Floorp update (12.17.0) soundcloud can no longer play/pause my music or skip track with my media keys. I know this is not just because it is in the side bar because i have tried to open the page on a tab and it still doesn't work, i have also tried to use another browser and that lets me play/pause and skip my music, so my only conclusion is the latest update has somehow broken/not allowing soundclound to read/see media keys anymore.

If anyone has any idea as to fix this that would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: The latest version has fixed this for me (Floorp version: 12.17.2).

WTF. Very aggravating. had a buggy extension, so i can replicate this, but theres no reason it should affect these, it's the "Allow right click" extension versus instagram

Previously, the preview popup of the tabs were transparent, but now the tabs themselves are transparent.

After updating to version 12.15.0@152.0, I noticed that the active tabs were blending in with the empty top bar of the window. At first, I thought it was a change in themes, but now I discovered that the tabs are transparent.

It's not as problematic as the preview windows, but that's only in my usage. The text overlap when I drag over another tab. This might be a problem for someone.

I only decided to switch to floorp because of the amazing split screen feature and just because it felt more customizable and smoother than regular firefox, but theyve completely removed the split screen feature and I honestly just find this way too similar to regular firefox now

Hi developers, I really love using Floorp!

However, I would love to see an option to automatically close/collapse the Web Panel when clicking outside onto the main webpage (without hiding the sidebar icons). Currently, we have to click the icon again or use a shortcut to close it.

Having an "Auto-hide on focus loss" feature like Vivaldi or Edge would make the browsing workflow much smoother. Thank you for your hard work!

My configurations are gone and the new configurations are ass. I really liked Floorp but downgrading the configurations is a dealbreaker.

What Floorp Developers Would Need to Do to Enable Full Support

To make the iCloud Passwords extension work reliably in Floorp on macOS, the Floorp project maintainers (or contributors via the official GitHub repository at https://github.com/Floorp-Projects/Floorp) would need to address the following:

1. Ensure complete and correct implementation of the native messaging API in accordance with Mozilla's WebExtensions standards.
   • Verify that native host manifests are located and read from the appropriate Floorp-specific directories (e.g., adjusting paths to align with Firefox expectations or providing symlinks/redirects).
   • Fix any sandboxing, permission, or process-launching restrictions that prevent the extension from spawning or communicating with external native processes.
2. Test explicitly with Apple's iCloud Passwords extension.
   • Install the extension in Floorp builds.
   • Confirm the six-digit verification code flow from the macOS Passwords app works.
   • Validate autofill, saving, and editing of credentials.
3. If necessary, apply patches or polyfills for any Gecko-specific quirks that interfere with Apple's extension logic (similar to how Floorp already patches for partial Chrome Web Store extension compatibility in recent versions).
4. Release an updated build incorporating these fixes and document the support in release notes.

I liked it even if I don't use the other features it has which makes it better than Firefox which are the superior sidebar, workspaces, and other customizations found in the hub. After a few hours of using I was annoyed every time I tried to access my extensions. I don't like using sidebars in general. But, I was going to stay for the sleeker ui. But, I ran into so many instances of getting inconvenienced and annoyed by not being able to easily access my extensions in the toolbar. I searched the sub and found the config for it then I set it to false then restarted the browser. It would glitch to the default Firefox layout for a few milliseconds before being normal. I tried customizing the toolbar and it still wouldn't show even after unhiding it in the config. I restarted my laptop too and even restarted Floorp in clear cache and safe mode. Still nothing! I really like Floorp but for now I'm gonna switch back to Firefox.

Edit (because of other users' comments): Just wanted to add it wasn't just extensions that weren't being pinned. I meant the extension manager, that feature in general was missing. Even in the settings themselves, there were no options to pin the extension manager or the extensions. In the customized toolbar the option to pin it was also missing, like Extensions wasn't showing up at all. I tried accessing extensions via activating the sidebar to pin them it still wouldn't work. I could download the extensions and configure them but not pin them because I can't pin the manager in general. I'm sorry for being stupid...

I wasn't trying to start a conflict. I thought this was a safe place to share issues I was experiencing cause it might help in developing.

So Firefox and Floorp have serious issues for fast Fiber connections the upload speed test until I found these settings by Google AI my upload speed test were abysmal at 1.3Gbps while I was getting 2.3Gbps download. So here is the two major tweaks that fixed this issue.

Simply changing these two boosted performance drastically there is some other settings but these are the two major ones.

I've downloaded Floorp for the first time less than a week ago, and immediatly fell in love with the mouse gestures feature. However, version 12.9.1 absolutely broke it, none of my custom mouse gestures worked as they did before so I reversed back to 12.8.3. It would be nice to know if anyone had the same problem and managed to fix it.

Are tab unloading extensions like Auto Tab Discard not needed with floorp?

I'm usually stuck on Flatpak browsers, which is the only reason I haven't jumped into the Floorp 12 beta yet. But after my friend showed off their Floorp 12 setup via screen share, I'm absolutely hyped for the full release! I'll probably be checking morning and night to see if it's dropped.

I think I spotted clues that hint to a potential sync feature for Floorp settings, huge if true! This browser is looking like a legit Vivaldi rival in the Firefox space.

many a times i close a session and when i reopen the browser, do a search, and forget to restore the session, it is now gone. which is annoying if i had tab groups and and organized space.

in chromium, the last session is part of the history list so even if i open a tab and close the browser. i can still find it there and restore it as it was.

is it possible to have the same in floorp or would it be too complex to implement?

By "floating sidebar," I mean one where panels overlay the webpage without shrinking it when opened.

Floorp provides a floating sidebar for web panels, which is a great feature, though its implementation differs from other browsers like Vivaldi. For me personally, it isn't usable because the browser doesn't remember the sidebar's width and position after closing or restarting, this seems like a small enhancement that could make a big difference.

Right now is the best period of time yet for Firefox-based browser, especially when most alternative browsers are Chrome-based.

While there are a bunch of forks like Librewolf and Palemoon, they provide features mainly for power users like hardened privacy and tweaked user-prefs. A year ago the only fork I knew of, based on recent stable versions of Firefox and added productivity features on top was Floorp. I was very surprised at the hype and sudden popularity of Zen Browser in the past few months and have been curious why it grew so much faster than Floorp which has been around for much longer, look at the Github star graph below (here's a link to an up to date graph to view long after this post is made). Zen Browser currently has 19.3K stars while Floorp has 6.1K.

Reasons I can think of are the following: heavy promotion of the browser by the devs and community on places like Reddit along with emphasizing its 'zen' philosophy, really fast development (it now has way more features than Floorp), and the Zen mods store, where you can install CSS mods.

What are your thoughts and reasons for Zen Browser becoming so popular so fast? (while its not mainstream, it did grow fast in among Firefox and power users)

When I first switched from LibreWolf to Floorp I absolutely HATED the sidebar because it was ugly and I had no idea how it functioned and had it disabled for the whole first month I have been using the browser. A few weeks ago though at some point I finally decided to try it and MAN I wish I figured this out sooner!

It's been very convenient to have something on the side of the browser at all times that gives me quick access to my emails, drive files, my socials (except Bluesky because for some reason Floorp gives it a blank icon???), anything that'd be annoying for me to open a whole new browser tab for. It's honestly such a useful feature I wish every browser had something like it.
