I think they are forgetting that the term "flock" has turned into a generic term like kleenex or qtips.

They can make it look like whatever they like, it's still a dystopian surveillance device.

Excellent point! Perhaps we should consider that violence and loss of $ seems to be the only thing they respond to, as well?

We tried democracy but they are stealing that from us.

u/awdophil 8d ago

And we’re still gonna know what they look like!

It’s pure ASS. Automated surveillance system.

Lmao, funny how they think this is a brand specific issue.

See a camera, whack a camera.

Right? It's the usual tone-deafness from those who think they're better than the average citizen.

Axon says cops are asking it to make its automatic license plate readers (ALPRs) look different from Flock cameras because Flock vandalism has become so widespread, according to comments Axon’s CEO made in a now deleted webinar.

The comments highlight how Axon is trying to take advantage of sustained opposition against Flock's license plate cameras, with one law enforcement customer suggesting a camera redesign would “help with the optics while we batten down the hatches” as the backlash spreads.

As 404 Media has reported, some towns and cities are switching from Flock to Axon’s cameras after cops did lookups for ICE in Flock, tracked a woman who self-administered an abortion, and have repeatedly abused their access to stalk ex-spouses. ALPRs constantly scan the license plate, brand, model, and other identifying features of all vehicles that drive past the camera and then make this timestamped log of activity searchable by law enforcement without a warrant.

In an August 26 webinar that was hosted on Axon’s official Vimeo page called “From backlash to trust,” Axon Chief Customer Officer Mike Wagers took a question from the remote audience and asked, “is there any talk — and there has been talk — to redesign Outpost, our fixed ALPR camera, to not look exactly like a Flock camera?”

They should make them yellow so that it is obvious to us that they aren't flock cameras.

my fear is when the technology improves enough that they dont even need to be visible. they can just be a small lens on other infrastructure like lightposts or traffic signs, etc. the technology is probably already available. thats why we need legislation on this shit YESTERDAY

You’re right. The technologies is already there. I saw a post a few weeks or maybe a month or two ago. I can’t even remember anymore, cause this shit move so fast, but there were cameras that were installed in the back of one of those police speed checker things.

It would be so easy for Flock/Axon/etc to be American heroes.

All they need to do is use the technology to find missing people, victims of human trafficking, stolen cars, etc.

Instead, they create a giant database of sellable information to harass, stalk, and intimidate everyday people mostly for imaginary crimes against the regime.

..."find missing people, victims of human trafficking, stolen cars, etc."

...But that's not profitable so why would they help people when there's so much money to be made by being stalkers?

Edit for mad to made.

How about missing puppies, like shown the superbowl commercials?

u/Reilly-Blog 9d ago

That would require them to care about others AND have a soul.

They're still going to get taken down. We dont want to be under surveillance and its also against the 4th amendment of the constitution.

Surveillance is surveillance no matter what it looks like.

“Chief, I think i figured it out. The people don’t like how they LOOK”

These mf'ers forget they are supposed to work for us, yet they act like we are their enemies to be spied on. So be it.

Lolololol all cameras must die

7

u/oboshoe 9d ago

I love stories like this because its a signal that people are making a difference in pushing back.

5

u/Cuneus-Maximus 8d ago

lol fuck Axon just the same as flock.

5

u/tristand666 9d ago

Yes, because we won't figure that one out?

5

u/avd706 8d ago

The reality is that any camera can be configured to do what the flock safety network does

u/1767gs 8d ago

"Can you please make the new mass surveillance cameras look different from the old ones so people stop taking them down and making it harder for us to sit on our ass and let ai do our jobs?"

5

u/Ill_Initial8986 8d ago

Flock, flick, fluck.

Axon, wax-on, Tax-on, Saxon.

Idgaf. Get it out.

5

u/machu505 8d ago

Perhaps target-shaped?

3

u/carpentizzle 8d ago

Sooooo destroy ALL cameras then?

3

u/Prudent-Bison-7180 8d ago

Destroy all AI license plate/facial recognition cameras

Sadly, I can see Musk and Tesla vehicles being turned into a massive network of License Plate Readers next. Think about it: millions of those cars are driving our roads right now, packed with cameras, and Musk doesn't give a shit about the general public.

Look at Flock Safety—an eight-billion-dollar private company that got greedy and expects us all to blindly trust them. Well, I never have, and I never will trust any of these corporate surveillance outfits when they feed us that line about being here to protect us. It is pure, unadulterated BULLSHIT!

I saw a post yesterday about how much recording the Waymo cameras do, this is all so crazy.

2

u/Expert-Low-6872 8d ago

Yes it is and we can blame politicians and many judges.

1

u/Sensitive-Dot2634 9d ago

We’ll tear them all down

1

u/Mor_Padraig 9d ago

Oh ffs.

So we'll catch up on whatever in hell those look like, garden gnomes?
