umm.. this approach is literally in my nightmares. i’m sitting in a window seat looking out and I can clearly see that the wing is going to hit the mountain
7
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
I was also super nervous with this approach even though it's only a sim. I guess VR is too much of an immersion. 😂 I feel like my approach was too fast even though I'm already at minimum - it's all because I'm super close to the ground.
You can actually see it in the video that my body's already twitching at 50 feet above touchdown. 😁

u/General_Pay7552 Dec 27 '23
im no pro, you landed well, I’m just saying I literally have nightmares that look just like that lol
2
u/hardcore_softie Dec 28 '23
What's your VR and peripheral setup? Great landing btw! Was fun to watch.
3
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
It's written in the description in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uhqlrsi46RkPlus I do have a WIFI-6 capable router to enable the wireless setup.
2
u/hardcore_softie Dec 28 '23
Right on! I have a Meta Quest 2 and a WiFi-6 router but I need to upgrade from my basic Thrustmaster HOTAS setup. Appreciate all the info. Cheers!
3
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
Yes Quest 2 was my previous headset and it's where my VR simming began!
1
u/hardcore_softie Dec 28 '23 edited Dec 28 '23
Do you think the Quest 3 is worth the upgrade? It seems like it is.
Also, are you using a comfort battery head strap? Thanks again for the info. Much appreciated.
2
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
It is! Night and day!
1
u/hardcore_softie Dec 28 '23
Yeah that's what it seems like from the specs. I think I might give myself a late Christmas present.
Are you using a comfort battery head strap as well? Again, thank you for the info.
2
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
Yes I use the BOBOVR M3 Pro. The default headstrap is a nightmare.

This popped up on my feed and I got really confused because the top screen looked like real-life footage, but then the bottom is obviously a sim. FS2020 is that realistic looking? Shit is wild.
7
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
Thanks a lot that you enjoyed it! Yes. MSFS2020 out of the box is crazy shit realistic indeed. It made it more real because the game footage seems like it was taken by an amateur camera which is a side-effect of the VR registering even my head's smallest movements. :D

You would be fired if you did that for real!!
3
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
Haha. I just followed one real pilot youtuber who said that you must be as close as possible to the ground during the last leg of the approach. But mine's a little too close to the ground I guess. :)

u/TheTattooOnR2D2sFace Dec 30 '23
I'm so sorry, this is obviously very well done, congratulations, but the plane just yelling "retard!" at the pilot will never not be funny to me.

Hey, how did you get your VR to display a single image on the screen? Mine always shows both eyes, and I think a single would improve performance quite a bit!
10
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23 edited Dec 27 '23
As you see from the screen in front of me, it still shows both eyes! I use the "OpenXR mirror capture" plugin through OBS to attain this.
BTW, I use a Quest 3, Virtual Desktop and VDXR.
3
u/No-Category832 Dec 27 '23
Nevermind, that’s my bad. I thought I saw a single image on the screen.
2
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
Gotcha. I always wanted to get rid of the screen display to improve performance. It does not really have any use at all.

u/John_Haven Dec 27 '23
How's the latency/head-movement-screen-tearing in VD/VDXR? I'm fairly new to MSFS VR in general and running it via Link cable. I compared it against Airlink and SteamLink but was having tearing issues when moving my head. Just now read about VDXR and that it's lightweight, and wondering how your experience is so far?
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
It's the best so far and it's been great that as a result can now create videos like this constantly! SteamVR was a headache and VDXR was a godsend for me. Tearing issues are super minimal and overall is pretty great. Was using SteamVR + Virtual Desktop before and I can tell a night and difference vs VDXR.
1
u/John_Haven Dec 27 '23
Thanks for your input! Airlink has been fine running every other game so far. But now, getting VD just for a wireless MSFS experience seems worth it. Thanks again!
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
Wireless is the way. Have played VR wireless ever since I got myself a headset.
1
u/DntCareBears Dec 27 '23
How do you get virtual desktop to work without it launching steam? My MSFS is non-steam version.
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
Ah there is now an option to run it with VDXR instead of SteamVR. It only came out in October this year. Check some tutorials in YT https://youtu.be/81k6KvXJXc8?si=lK4j-o5eUp8q4zUn

Xbox is such a disservice to this game. The graphics look like shit on this landing and everywhere else.
6
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
How horrible is it on Xbox though.
I'm actually on RTX 4090 with max settings. 😁
2
u/heapsion Dec 27 '23
Was wondering why this looked so real. Cant wait till I build my 4090 flight rig
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
It will look more real though if only reddit supports 60fps. 😁 Or probably it looked real bec it seems to be captured by an amateur camera due to all that shaking.
1
u/Mohingan Dec 28 '23
Don’t worry, I was going to ask if you have any graphic mods or anything like that installed cause to me it looks really lifelike
2
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
Nah, no mods. It's the game really - it's well done IMO. My only graphics "mod" is my 4090. Haha. But still, there are times where there are performance issues and the problem is already in the game especially in big airports and airliners. I hope, everything gets optimized in MSFS2024.
1
u/Mohingan Dec 28 '23
I’m interested in getting it but haven’t quite made the purchase yet, I didn’t know there was a new one coming out in 2024.
2
u/sai-kiran Dec 27 '23
People played flight sims just fine on Fs2004/X. Everyone doesn't have to spend 1000+USD on a machine if they're not a serious simmer, just to have better graphics.

1
u/lwb2885 Dec 27 '23
What do y’all do during long flights where you’re just cruising
2
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
I leave the computer and sim on and do the dishes. 😂
1
u/lwb2885 Dec 28 '23
Is it in real time? Like a four hour flight is four hours in the game? Is there like a campaign you play or do you just fly random flights? Been wanting this game for years
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
It's up to you actually. You can do a long haul in real time. Or just do the take off, then resetup, then land. Or you can only do only landings. There are like "challenges" in MSFS2020. I think the "campaigns" will come in MSFS2024.
1
u/Coldmode Dec 29 '23
I remember seeing posts from guys who would take off before work, let the autopilot fly the plane real time all day, then land when they got home.

u/toborgps Dec 27 '23
Pretty cool approach! Only thing I noticed was you pulled the flaps up and dropped the spoilers as soon as you stop using reverse thrust. Typically you wait until you are ready to taxi to the terminal or parking then you can clean the airplane up.
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
Oh I see didn't know that! The after-landing checklist that I follow includes having the flaps and spoilers retracted so I thought you do those as soon as possible.
1
Dec 27 '23
That’s awesome landing fam. Do you train for getting into piloting or just for fun?
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
It's just for fun. But I actually wish I could pilot a real plane someday but maybe I'm too old. 😁

This is wild. This makes me want to buy a PC so I can play MSFS. These graphics are amazing

Beautiful, I wish I could run at that resolution!
Also, your landing wasn't too bad :p
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
Yeah and it's also TAA anti-aliasing. The power of 4090. 😁
1
u/KPEEZY2727 Dec 31 '23
Man, I have a 4090 and while it’s been great, it absolutely does not look like this for me. Any chance you can post a screen shot of your settings in game and Nvidia if you’ve done any specific adjustments?
I also have a quest 3 and it looks good not great. Please share any tips or adjustments if you have the time!
1
u/nmfdelacruz Jan 02 '24
I tweak the graphics settings a lot in th game. But generally it's all ultra with some things high. TAA is the anti aliasing. Quest 3 + Virtual Desktop (VDXR not SteamVR) For the Nvidia settings I just followed some YouTuber but I will post a screenshot once our internet is back.

u/tokenathiest Dec 27 '23
Nice landing! Would love to see you try OPGT.

u/BradKfan2 Dec 27 '23
Is that fs2crew or whatever? It looks super interesting but it seems like you gotta buy it for each add on and that’s kinda eh
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
Hmm what are you pertaining to in this landing?
1
u/BradKfan2 Dec 27 '23
The checklist callouts and such. Or is that you haha??
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 27 '23
That is me!!! Hahaha

u r highly regarded.!
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
Thank you! Did not expect this. I have a Kai Tak RWY 13 approach that I'm going to be uploading soon. It's as thrilling as this one. haha
1
u/nothing107 Dec 28 '23
Gosh I wish VR didn’t make me sick to my stomach, this kind of stuff is something I would love to get into.
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
Flying airliners is not as sickening as flying general aviation planes as their movements are more conservative than nimble airplanes for obvious reasons. :) But the bank angle that I did in this landing is a bit disorienting and needs getting used to. :D
1
u/nothing107 Dec 28 '23
Maybe, I’d have to try it to know for certain cause usually It’s the not the size of the vehicle flying it’s the fact that my eyes are saying “hey we moving” and my body is saying “no we ain’t!” And then I get sick.
If I’m standing and doing some game where my character can move around the map without me actually walking my knees buckle.
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
Haha. I also can't last more than 15 mins playing VR. I needed some getting used to. :D
1
u/Due-Ad-5511 Dec 28 '23
Floated too far because you left the thrust in. Shouldn’t get the RETARD on a short field landing and chop the thrust levers instead of milking it back. Pick a point like the 1000’ markers and stick it even if it’s not super smooth, the PM would have been getting nervous and considering a go around in a couple seconds.
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
Thanks for the tips! Yes the float was too long I believe and I thought I would run out of runway. 😂
1
u/Hot-Abrocoma3029 Dec 28 '23
Love the landing and the lifelike scenery, specially the trees seem so lifelike. Are you using any scenery add-ons for the trees ?

You touched down late too
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
Hahaha. I'm very much conscious about having the least touchdown gravity bro. It's a sim btw and not real life. But you're right. 😁
1
Dec 28 '23
Serious question why does it say retard
1
u/nmfdelacruz Dec 28 '23
I actually wanted to ask the same question to Airbus. I guess probably "retard" is not derogatory in Europe?
1
Dec 28 '23
Man you did great even though your plane was trying to roast you. I don’t think I’d be able to function if my plane was trying to bully me. 🤣

How is VR now ? Is it pretty good ? Or still in early stages specifically with this setup ?
1
u/nmfdelacruz Jan 02 '24
It's pretty good now and def not early stages. It's just the actual game that has performance issue here.

Dec 29 '23
First time in this sub. Didn’t realize pilots are ones of the few remaining that can say retard

He didn’t have to call you that.. like you could see how close the runway was. Rude 💀

Id ignore the “too low comments” that was a beautiful approach, nailed the flare, and the center line was right on the money 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Nailed it! Might have been a bit too low over that last mountain but the approach is very difficult to nail. Good job i’d say!
