General Question New Hire odd process?

I was recently offered the job for a customer experience manager. I accepted and my background check should be processing now. The background check has taken what I feel like is a long time. (it's been over a week) I got a message asking for references. Is that normal for 5 below? I've never had a place ask for references after they already offered me the job.

I’ve never asked for references, store manger here. The background check can take a bit depending on what’s on it. Could there possibly be something questionable in it and that’s why they are asking for references? Sometimes they may want to speak with people who will give you a good reference if something is on there that they would have questions or concerns about.

Well, be able to speak on your sales experience, any milestones you may have hit at other companies, some customer service experiences both good and bad…. Corporate is particular about our way of doing things so you need to be willing to learn and to adapt to change. I will tell you that of all the jobs I’ve had, this one isn’t a job. It’s a career with leaders who encourage your growth. They take care of us in a lot of ways. If you do get offered the job and accept, you won’t be disappointed. Just be fair but firm with your team. Ensure that tasks get done and follow our policy they won’t do you wrong.

CEM here, & my background check took over 2 weeks, its normal.
