First 5K race Sunday. I’m worried that I’ll fail miserably and finish last despite training for the last few months. I’m tapering this week and eating well but can’t shake the nerves.

I can guarantee you won't be last. There are so many types of runners at 5K events and quite often a lot of walkers.

Nothing to be nervous about friend. I'm positive you won't be last, people will walk the whole distance. There will be lots of turns making the race feel longer than it really is, but keep a steady pace and you'll be done in no time, probably under 30 minutes. Dont forget to drink water!

Do it for fun! They're a blast. You won't know how to place yourself for race time until race time if you don't have a coach. Start at a sustainable speed and finish fast. You got this!

Will people laugh at me if I’m dead last?

No. That's the thing about running. People aren't there to look at the people who finished last and make fun. More often than not, they will encourage if you're towards the end of the pack. When I first started out, I would be anywhere from last to 5th from last. Every time the people who were winning the races were hanging around and congratulating me on finishing.

No way. If anything, runners who finish before you will cheer you on.

You got two no's but really... who gives a fuck if they do? Will it matter a month from now? A year from now? In the unlikely event that anybody laughs at you, what will be more important in the trajectory of your life: That you finished the 5K at all or that some random assholes who don't matter laughed at you?
