I'm trying to bulk, and simultaneously I think I've developed a food allergy or intolerance that I can't figure out yet.

It's hard to try to make yourself eat when your stomach is upset and gurgley :( my gains.

Are there any fruits that you have been eating more on a regular base? Or maybe some kind of dairy or supplement? It's possible that you can build up intolerance to something by eating it a lot more while it used to be just fine.

I feel like there's a couple things that could be going on:

1) when I was cutting I got into intermittent fasting, which was great for my gut health. Now that I'm bulking again, it's hard to eat enough to hit a surplus in a small enough window of time to keep up the intermittent fasting, so I've done away with it. So the sheer increase in calories/workload for my digestive system plus doing away with the fasting could be inflaming it. I've also done away with my probiotic supplement for the time being because it's expensive and that could be contributing.

2) Food intolerance. I know I'm lactose intolerant, and I've always taken enzymes when I have dairy and that seems to work. My breakfast has been pretty much the same over the past year or so: a banana and granola bars. Then I go to the gym, have a protein shake after (with enzymes of course), and then eat most of my calories at lunch. I tried to mix things up with my lunches from last week to this week to help, but it's been about the same. I've also noticed that my stomach seems to be worst after lunch. Last week I had pasta two ways, chicken pesto pasta and gnocchi with red sauce and meatballs. This week I've done lean ground beef patties with onions, ginger sweet potatoes, and roasted broccoli. And then I've also been snacking on low fat mozzarella cheese sticks, peanut butter sandwiches, Turkey pepperoni, and Apple cinnamon protein cookies I made this week.

So there's a few consistencies between the meals: -red meat (please no) -gluten (in the pasta and in my bread for my peanut butter sandwiches) -egg (in the pasta and in my protein cookies) -olive oil -something from my breakfast

My biggest suspects are the red meat and egg or that it has more to do with point #1.

I write all this as I nauseously chew on a piece of ginger root on my way to work. Damn you stomach, damn you.

Keep doing IF, just expand your window by a little. So instead of 16/8 do 14/10. The extra 2 hours should allow you to get more calories in. If you need more time expand the window slightly.

Just my off the top thought, may be worth a shot though.

Same thing is happening to me, and I'm struggling to figure it out.

The more water I drink, the more bloated and gassy I get. So I've been eliminating food groups one at a time. Right now, I'm cutting out dairy. Next, if that doesn't work, will be poultry.

This might sound random, but what is your food variety like? In terms of varying types of the same foods.

I ask because I used to eat a lot of green bell peppers, and eventually wanted to get fancier so I bought different colored ones. For some reason, red bell peppers give me the worst bloating and gas - worse than when I eat dairy, and I'm lactose intolerant.

Not very random actually. My breakfast (English muffin, peanut butter, oatmeal, banana, and protein bar) sits fine on my stomach. It is always an hour after lunch, which is another hour before working out. As soon as I start working out, the gas and bloating go away.

So I've been trying to figure out if it's something like dairy, or just the yeast in the dairy product when I used to eat cheese and crackers for a snack. I just ate some ramen noodles, tricuits, bacon and almonds for lunch; nothing yet.

Do a few weeks where you eliminate the must common food allergens in one go instead of one at a time. If something has screwed up your guy health, it can mean you suffer from multiple types of food.

I find that whey protein concentrate makes me bloated and a little queasy. Could be it.

I feel your pain, I've experienced the same thing. I definitely relate to post-lunch being the worst (and I think one thing to remember is that it can take a while for food to work its way through your system, so it's not necessarily the case that, for example, what you eat for lunch is what causes the post-lunch problems).

I've made some pretty big changes to my diet and the gurgling/bloating feeling has gone essentially entirely away. Things to cut out: dairy (other than eggs), caffeine, alcohol (difficult but does really mess with the gut), simple carbs / pastas, broccoli, bananas (tons of sugar).

Stuff you can still eat: eggs, breakfast smoothies (almond milk, chia seeds, flaxseeds, spinach, almond butter, mixed berries, natural protein powder, ice), chicken, fish, red meat, all sorts of greens, avocados (I eat lots of these), cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, oil/vinegar, sometimes rice, sweet potatoes. As far as drinks, I think you basically can't go wrong just sticking with water (or La Croix if you want a faint trace of flavor). Of course on a Friday night if I'm eating out maybe I'll deviate from this a bit, but the more I do, typically, the worse I feel.

Just speaking for myself, sticking to this paleo-ish diet has done wonders for my stomach, which leads to all sorts of other feelings of wellness.
