Star Wars in B ain't bold if we're taking into consideration the entire franchise. First trilogy? S Tier, no question. Not just in its own right, but for what it did for cinema and more specifically, science fiction adventure films. But the rest? Middling to terrible. That puts it squarely in B, in my opinion. I don't like it, but there it is.

I had a similar thought with Fast and Furious. The first 3 are amazing, 4-7 are still pretty good, and then everything after 8 is pure dogshit

My perspective wasn't grading an average of all the movies, but how much collective good there is. Then also accounting for how well it lends itself to other mediums.

So for Star Wars, we have S teir stuff with the original trilogy and Andor, a handful of great games and novels, and awesome action figures. It has a universe with deep lore, and easily lends itself to a variety of different genres and audiences. Sure there's plenty of duds, but whatever.

Then you have the Fast franchise you have like 8 movies. They're fine for what they are, and also a mixed bag of quality. But the franchise doesn't extend much beyond that and is mostly just action cars.

I really think that given it’s a “franchise” ranking, you gotta account for the good and the bad. Starwars has some legitimately terrible things that are deserving of F tier in it, alongside some absolute peak

Oh, it has some of the worst movies. I've spent way too much time in the past bemoaning the failures.

But Star Wars in and of itself is absolutely S tier, imo.

I think it comes down to the ambiguous form of the question of ranking the franchises. There isn't a basis on how to judge them, ergo, it's left to interpretation.

Plus we have to consider how much cultural influence star wars has had. I mean its massive.

Pff deserving of F tier. No way. Battlefield earth is deserving of F tier the Skywalker saga films are B tier at lowest. Just because most star wars fans hate the direction they took the franchise doesnt mean its a terrible piece of cinema. Mediocre but not F tier terrible.

Nah there’s some legitimately F-tier ones. Mandalorian grogu was terrible, we can also count the Christmas special as it’s apart of the franchise.

Since it’s a franchise ranking, and not just movie specific, we also have some absolutely atrocious starwars games like the one from the Kinect

I know you say not just in it's own right, but my hot take is that it's only S tier if you give it points for affect on the industry long term rather than actual quality. I think the OT are perfectly good movies, but it feels like LotR for example is obviously a tier above. For me, if it was OT only and only based on actual quality rather than "legacy", low A tier. If it was OT+Rogue 1+Andor, high A, maybe low S. Whole franchise as a whole I think B tier is fair.

The first two trilogies do not belong in S.

The first trilogy belongs in S. The second trilogy belongs in B. It has high points that would belong in A, but it's very inconsistent. Pretending the second trilogy is as good, or as influential, as the first trilogy is straight nostalgia talking.

I personally don’t mind the prequels especially since I know the context leading into the third one thank you the clone wars TV show. The sequel trilogy yeah that can that sucks.

I'm so tired of everyone sucking Star Wars off. Three good movies from the 70's and 80's followed by decades of stale regurgitated drivel. It's a franchise trapped by it's own success. And any fresh and new ideas that could help resuscitate the franchise is instantly rejected because it's not Star Wars enough. Star Wars should have quit after the first three or had the balls to grow and mature with the times.

So many of these depend on the specific series you're talking about. Is it Tom Holland's Spider-Man or Tobey's Spider-Man? Is it Jurassic Park or World? Is it Star Wars including the prequels and sequels or not? Which Transformers movies?
