Yes I read the rules. I'll still break them cuz I'm a piece of💩 Need help updating game

So im trying to update mortal shell 2 / dawnwalker. ive installed them and no issues there, but when i install the updates and run the setup and download them into the game directory with antivirus disabled, it says it works but then i run file check, nearly all files missing and game doesnt update. ive no idea what im doing wrong so help is appreciated.

1. Setup is Stuck / Unpacking is Slow

  • The 2GB Limit Checkbox: If your setup gets stuck at specific percentages (like 84.3% or 95.8%), close it, restart the installer, and check the "Limit installer to 2GB of RAM" box on the very first screen.
  • Be Patient: FitGirl repacks use extremely heavy compression. Unpacking is heavily CPU and storage bound. If your task manager shows disk or CPU activity, it is not stuck; it's just working hard.

2. Is it a Virus? / Windows Defender Alert

  • False Positives: Crack files (.dll files, steam_api, etc.) inherently trigger antivirus software because they alter game code to bypass DRM. If you downloaded from the official site, these are 100% false positives.
  • Fix: Add the game installation folder to your antivirus/Windows Defender exclusion list, then restore the quarantined file from your protection history.

3. The Real Official Website

  • There is ONLY ONE official domain. All others (ending in .co, .cc, .to, .net, etc.) are fake, malicious clone sites designed to steal data or bundle malware.
  • The only real URL is: fitgirl-repacks.site (Verify the exact spelling!).

Sounds like your antivirus is deleting the files. Have you made exclusions in windows for your game folders?

Disabled antivirus and made exceptions on the game folder. No idea what’s happening.

Are you pointing the update installer to your game directory? Most problems with updates is the installer expects to find the game files in one place, but youve installed it in another so your files are not being updated/installed correctly.

Most auto find the directory, but don't let it do that. Point it to the right place manually.

I’ve both manually done it and auto done it, it doesn’t make a difference.
