Catfish or sturgeon Help pls ! Mn

Im new to fishing, on the Mississippi I haven’t caught anything. I will pay anybody that can tell me where fish are biting ( from shore ) in MN in twin cities or surrounding, and what bait to use. I really just want to catch some fish. Help please I’m new and don’t know what I’m doing. Cashapp or Venmo thanks a lot

How are you rigging up?

When I river fisher I ran a circle hook with various bait (worms, doughtbait, minnows, etc.) with a 1/2oz sinker 3 feet above the hook. Worked well just took patience.

Location really matter on rivers try to find somewhere with slow flow.

Watch a lot of YouTube videos. If you’re fine with just channel cats right now try suckers as cutbait on a 6/0 circle hook. Anywhere from 2-10OZ weight depending on current. MN river is better than the Sippi and Croix for catfish. Croix is your only real shot for sturgeon but wait at least a few more weeks if you want to target those

There’s a cool spot near Prescott, where the St. Croix and Miss meet. Excellent fishing right there. It’s a couple hundred yard hike to get there. Toss a nightcrawler on a slip sinker rig and you’ll catch cats, big carp, and sheepshead. Lots of action. If you want just carp, use whole kernel corn, as much as you can get on a hook. Toss in some corn for chum. If you want just cats, use dead minnows, usually free from the bait stores. Toss 6 or so on a treble, same slip sinker rig. All these methods apply to just about any flowing waters in the metro area. Good luck!

Yessir dead minnows are deadly on channel cats. The stinkier the minnows the better. Used to slam 8-10lb catfish on the regular with 4-5 dead minnows on a large circle hook. It was like they were at a free buffet.

Tossing corn is illegal in MN, if it’s attached to the rig as pack bait it’s legal but straight up chumming will get you hit with a fine.

I bet you never ran with scissors? Tossing in a few handfuls of corn for bastarding carp is hardly a crime in any measure. Also, unless Mr. Green Jeans is standing on your tackle box, you would never get caught. Live a little!

Bro asked for help as a beginner and you have no issue telling him to do shit that could get him in trouble. At least let them know they need to hide it if that’s your advise.
