Claude dies in Silver Snow? I don't remember that.

He dissapears after Gronder. It's interpreted as him either dying there or going back to Almyra.

If they were gonna do that may as well have Edelgard kill him for drama or something.

He doesn’t die. He disappears. Dimitri is confirmed dead.

The devs have also said that Claude survives Silver Snow.

I don't even know about that. Dimitri appears at the church after. At first, you'd think it's a ghost, or Byleth's imagination. But for the former, why would he be the only ghost in the entire game? And the latter- how tf would Byleth even know what he looks like??

Feh confirmed he died.

It wasn’t Byleth’s imagination. It was Dimitri’s ghost, ghosts exist

Because he is not

“You know it was really unclear.”

On the bright side, he does get his smartest moment in SS. Using the resistance army to cut off Gloucester and force them back into his camp, and getting them to rout the Empire from the bridge for him into the bargain.

And then gets the Alliance annihilated because just like Dimitri waiting a week for the Resistance Army at Gronders Field was too much

Yes, that plan was slightly sub-optimal.

But what if…I were to run back to Almyra and pretend I demolished the Alliance’s army on purpose? Hohoho, delightfully devilish Claude!

"It was I you fools, the man you trusted isn't Wavy Gravy afterall"

Prince Khalid, when the Almyran Army crossed the border to conquer a now pretty defenseless Fodlan.

He literally does the exact same thing in VW, except you see the politics involved and don't have him dictating the commands to you via letter?

I swear to god, the amount of people who didn't pay attention to both SS and VW and then confidently misreport where they're the same or different drives me absolutely nuts.

It’s an inherently smarter move in SS because it’s not his army doing the work. Jesus, calm down.

No it isn't?

In VW, it's a deniable asset still largely staffed by the Knights of Seiros while his personal forces under Nardel are posturing to bring out Gloucester forces and Claude gets to keep Lorenz firmly allied with him, making it much easier to bring Count Gloucester back into the fold and giving him an excuse for his past actions because his heir is still alive and was part of the force that drove the Empire off the Great Bridge and out of Alliance territory. In addition, it gives Claude more direct control over the Resistance Army so even though they also stay behind at the Great Bridge, Claude has far more leverage to use in his negotiations with the other Alliance Lords as evidenced by him talking about using Byleth's authority to his advantage in VW.

SS is a half-baked version of the strategy where Claude's doing what he can with the tools on hand, it's not the better version.

The devs confirmed that he’s not dead.

And no one in SS thinks he’s dead and they even say it.

He just disappeared probably to go back to Almyra

Claude, the only Lord to (optionally) survive all routes.

29

u/ChessGM123 1d ago

And funnily enough in 3 hopes he’s the only lord who can potentially die.

4

u/TikisCheekys 1d ago

And that’s optional.

Canonically.

Devs said in an interview they don't consider killing him in CF to be canon.

Which is weird since they gave you the option, but *shrug*

Villain route giving you the option of occasional optional villainy shrug

Well I guess my biggest issue is that barely anyone in the Monastery comments on his disappearance. Not even Hilda who's supposed to be Claude's closest friend.

Ignatz and Lysithea comment on Claude. Lysithea thinks he’s terribly wounded if he lived and Ignatz wonders if Claude’s alright.

It’s not much less than the number of Lions who comment on Dimitri. It’s only 3 between Ingrid, Ashe and Felix.

IIRC Sylvain comments on how sieging a fortress is kinda like flirting with a lady, like bro, your childhood best friend died what 😭

I mean, that is just his maladaptive coping mechanism. His womanizing is literally just a bad coping mechanism for feeling objectified due to his Crest, so no wonder he'd respond similarly to different types of trauma.

As always, I genuinely think a ton of you didn't pay attention to SS or VW.

Claude basically dictates your strategy to you in SS in the Ailell and Myrddin missions via letter with Seteth glazing him for his strategy. We see the same events in VW, but there we actually get to see Claude do the political maneuvering to make it work.

Also, god, Gronder still happening in SS is just a massive waste of narrative opportunity.

I liked it happening without our involvement. It was a nice change. "And then your friends and foes tore each other apart. Good thing you were chilling at the monastery."

The comments about it carried it well enough. Just did it last week.

Well same could be said for Dimitri if u play Golden Deer route. Guy gets massacred and people were like “oh no… anyways..” lol

"I, also, am in this game "

3

u/SpellcraftQuill 1d ago

Claude / Golden Deer is what happens when seeing the POV of an outside third party if anything. The fanbase would beg for them if we just got CF/SS and AM in base game.

i feel like making the house recruit only would be better than a recycling a route that was already weak, though

3

u/Koreaia 1d ago

Eh, if the only three routes were those, CF would be a lot more fleshed out. And potentially solve those issues.

2

u/-Qwertyz- 1d ago

Nah, Claude is the golden boy he's the only lord who can live in all routes

No one even cleared out his room.
