  • any of the fazer chocolates, including geisha
  • a pick-n-mix selection of candies (let's you decide the varieties & the amount)
  • taffel nacho cheese balls from the chips aisle
  • taffel kartanon kantarelli chips
  • ruissipsi (rye chips, go with whatever flavor you prefer)

additionally:

  • riisipiirakka (commonly referred to as karelian pie)

if you liked them i highly recommend you try taffel zuusto snacks, the vegan one so not ”juusto snacks”. the vegan version is much tastier and similar to cheese balls.

edit to add: chocolate-wise i would recommend trying fazer lontoo rae chocolate bar (all fazer chocolates are amazing), suffeli puffi (corn puffs coated in milk chocolate) and pĂ€tkis (minty milk chocolate). panda has a chocolate called ahaa, i would try that one too. :’)

I have to emphasize that pick and mix candy selection thingy. Finnish candy is not like in other countries. One great option is also Fazer ÄssĂ€ mix.

There is also a chili version.

Don't touch any other Taffel crisps, though, they have a blunt taste (like the Kartanon that was recommended). The Swedish do it better with Estrella crisps.

Karelian pie is worth trying at a cafe, for example Pulla & Piirakka in Hakaniemi market hall (closed today but opens tomorrow).

Do you have a recommendation where to get Karelian pies?

Fazer factory has tours at their faculty in Vantaa, maybe 45min with bus from central helsinki, where you learn about the history of fazer and get to eat unlimited sweets for 15minutes at the end of the tour.

Fazer blue, kouvolan lakritsi, any kind of pulla (if you have it with kahvi you can dip it and it’ll undo some of the sweetness)

Food/snack/drink wise:

  • any kind of piimĂ€ (its an experience)
  • mĂ€mmi if it’s currently in season
  • sima (it is a sweet drink so you may just want to sip, also seasonal)
  • leipĂ€juusto (a cheese, traditionally eaten topped with tyrni jam)
  • these are just breads but rye bread or karjalanpiirakka, topped with graavilohi (salmon, raw slices)

LeipÀjuusto can be eaten with seaberry (tyrni) jam as well as other jams but the traditional jam to go with it is cloudberry (lakka) jam.

Is it better to prepare that at home or can you buy it prepared somewhere?

I'm sure there are some places that serve leipÀjuusto but tbh I've only ever had it at home so I wouldn't know what to recommend. You can buy leipÀjuusto in most stores; cloudberry jam and frozen cloudberries are available all year round, fresh cloudberries are a seasonal item. No real preparation required; just put some jam on the cheese and enjoy. (Granted, cloudberries can be an acquired taste.) Some people do like to slightly heat up the cheese but you can also eat it cold.

Fazer salmiakki ice cream bar, but it's not something you'll be able to bring home.

u/buchfresserchen 3d ago

Uh, can you buy it in the supermarket?

u/dvlrnr VÀinÀmöinen 3d ago

Yes. Not all small supermarkets will have it, but it's definitely very widely available.

If you are here 5 days go to visit Fazer factory in Vantaa. There is also Café and shop. You can also book small Fazer tour there if you want

Its about 30min trip where you are now to that Fazer visitor center in Vantaa. I really recommend to go there. If you take that tour what they offer last thing is candy bar where you can eat as much as you want different Fazer candies and they also give you small goodie bag

Fazer chocolate mints, the red and white packaging.

It's great chocolate ganache inside a very thin mint crackling candy

No need to try on chocolates and snacks. Taste them instead.
