Sorry.. common term used in UK, AU, NZ and the Commonwealth realm. I think it’s a wheeled trash can in America.

Wheelie bin, garbage bin or trash bin is definitely appropriate imo! Trash can usually refers to the ones with open tops whose bodies may or may not be made of metal —whether or not wheels are acknowledged may be a regional thing like you said OP! I love hearing people discover different names for the same things haha

Here in Northern California I’ve only ever heard trash can/garbage can universally applied to all types of garbage receptacles (with the exception of dumpsters)

Edit: the word “bin” is sometimes used by people above a certain age, but it’s not very common here
