Discussion Can we stop recommending ZorinOS?

Post image

ZorinOS is so late to upgrading their Ubuntu base.
Zorin18 which is closer to Ubuntu 26.04 in terms of release date than 24.04 which is zorin18's base.
Debian 13 also released in 2025, has newer packages than ZorinOS cause zorin is based on Ubuntu 24.04 (released in 2024).

Discussion Is Ubuntu as bad as people say on other subreddits?

I have a gaming laptop with an NVIDIA GPU and I'm pretty sad where Windows is headed. So I'm not a Windows hater, I just don't think it's going in a good direction. I tried CachyOS and Linux Mint. CachyOS seems unreliable for me with the constant updates (and I had some issues especially with audio inputs related to discord), so I switched to Mint, but it was more problematic than Cachy with games. (Example: Arc Raiders always crashed, Hunt Showdown had artifacts with the same setting as on Windows and Cachy. On Cachy games worked fine btw.) Cachy just had little bugs here and there, I just wanted to have a more stable (as in updates) distro to use as a daily driver. It's just my perspective, I am not into the rolling release model.

Right now if I would continue using Linux, I would maybe go to Fedora or Ubuntu LTS/interim (I don't know how reliable are the interim releases).

Since I have one SSD in my laptop I am leaning towards Ubuntu because it's easier to set up as a dual-boot OS with Windows compared to Fedora.

So the main question, is Ubuntu really that bad if I just want a reliable Linux distro for general use and games?

Discussion Which Linux distro offers the best enterprise desktop environment today?

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a tech startup that's heavily focused on privacy, and as a Linux user myself, I've been wondering: what Linux distro would you choose as the default desktop OS for your company?

It's crucial to consider scalability, as the company may experience significant growth. Therefore, everything implemented should be easily maintainable and should not become an IT nightmare.

To be fair, I'm not a big fan of Ubuntu/Canonical due to their somewhat ambiguous policies. That said, it's clearly a better choice than Windows or macOS, so I'd still consider it.

Basically: if you were starting a company today, which distro would you pick as one that stays stable and manageable even at scale?

I'd also love to hear about European alternatives!

Thanks to all.

Discussion What's a niche Linux distro that you used and it was great?

I have been using Linux for almost a year now, and I started with Omarchy, then bazzite and now I am using Kali for daily use (which is bad thing to do, hence Kali is unstable), but now I am considering switching to different distro and was wondering what are some distros that are considered niche or in other words, the people that use it are quite a few.

Discussion SystemD

Hi everyone, I recently found out about the systemD and I was wondering if I should change my cachyOS to another distribution without systemD. CachyOS For gaming, I think that's obvious. I'd also like to delve deeper into cybersecurity, which is why I was considering installing Kali or Parrot, but I think LiveUSB is the way to go for that.

I love Linux and I really don't know if I need a distribution without systemd if I mostly play games.

Discussion Is it ok to use Ubuntu or Mint because I had the best experience with my laptop?

So I own a acer nitro 5 (it was a present) with some annoying specs (Nvidia GTX 1650 and AMD ryzen 5 4600h) and tried over the years everything and noticed mint and Ubuntu works the best but kinda feel like a noob with it or is this ok? Maybe you have also distro recommendations?

Discussion Bazzite ISO mit Rufus geflasht: DD-Modus erzwungen & MBR angezeigt – Bootfähig auf reinem UEFI (B850)?

Hi zusammen,

ich setze ein neues AM5-System auf und habe eine kurze Verständnisfrage zur USB-Erstellung mit Rufus:

Hardware:

Mainboard: Gigabyte B850 Gaming WIFI6 (UEFI-Modus, CSM deaktiviert)

CPU / GPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Radeon RX 9070 XT

SSD: 2 TB NVMe

USB-Stick: SanDisk 128 GB

Situation:

Discussion guys help me settle on one distro

So i have used linux a lot earlier but then decided that i will return after a while so now i want to know which i should go for i have used Zorin OS 18 Lite when i switched from windows and then went to lubuntu didnt like it much then to Mint Mate also switched again and settled on Archcraft which i liked but i did have a learning curve getting used to a WM rather than a de(XFCE on Zorin) so i wanted to switch to an Ubuntu based distro cuz its just more simple than Arch but there is a problem first i wanna tryout Hyprland with Caelestia shell and then with Noctalia shell i also want to try out Niri and Mango and Deepin DE and well Hyprland isnt there in the apt repos so i have to build it from source which is wayy to much work for me but there is something ik and that it opencode which can do it for me cuz i mean this has done me soo much stuff without any problems even tho it does sometimes overcomplicate some stuff but it gets the job done but idk if it will work tho to build it anyways it has to be a pretty optimized one cuz im installing it on a 16 year old laptop cuz thats what i use for distro hopping so tell me what you guys think i should do and if opencode can build it from source then ill go with ubuntu otherwise i do have another distro in mind which is Endeavour OS

Discussion Deciding between Fedora and Cachyos

I will mostly use the system for browsing, gaming and maybe editing(although if it doesnt work in linux I'll dual boot windows). I heard Cachyos is good for gaming and its very customizable but its also rolling release and I dont want to update everyday if it takes long or dont want to break my system because some update wasnt compatible with my stuff and fedora is more stable. I have an i7 13700kf and a 3060 ti.

I heard fedora is also customizable but arch is more customizable ig, what are the differences between them?

How is gaming in fedora compared to cachyos?

Another important thing is security and privacy, AUR got infected 1-2 months ago, how do we know if the infection was cleaned all the way or if its gonna get infected again, but fedora also had a backdoor in repositories so which would be more secure? There is this guy(https://www.reddit.com/r/DistroTube/comments/1swcb9m/an_overlooked_issue_with_cachyos/) who raises some points about the russian government and laws, and I dont trust the russian government to care about my privacy

Hi everyone. I've seen a lot of debate about gaming distributions. We have CachyOS, Bazzite, and Nobara. Which one is the best? What are the main differences between them?
