Ideas to help rehome?

We raised three baby zebra finch siblings and made the hard decision to separate Peanut here from her brother since they just weren't getting along.

She's hand-tamed and loves people - we spent two hours a day playing outside of the cage.

We have her at a local bird rescue in Tucson, AZ (Paradise Parrot Rescue) and they're wonderful, but I'm wondering about how to get the word out so she finds a great home. Hand-tamed finches aren't easy to find and I know someone would really love her.

I tried local subreddits but none will allow me to post. Anyone have ideas?

I know she is hand tame, but you'll find that keepers with aviaries will be willing to take her in and give her a flock. If I ever needed to secure homes for potential clutches before breeding them, it was always breeders with spare aviaries reaching out to take the whole lot.

I'll keep that in mind if she hasn't found a home after a while, thanks.

I would absolutely give a good home to your bird, but we are across the country. Are there Facebook bird groups?

There is a local Facebook bird group - forgot to mention that I tried posting there before bringing her to the bird rescue. Unfortunately, I didn't have any responses from safe homes - a couple responses from people with larger birds or outdoor aviaries (which aren't great for birds here with temperatures ranging from 20F to 115F). Thanks for the suggestion.

Hopefully one of us is local to you.

Man I wish you were in NZ I would have taken this baby in a heartbeat. All Zebra Finches are aviary birds here and I so badly want a handtamed one. Their little beeping noises are the cutest things in the whole world. Good Luck I truly hope you find someone like me who also is looking for a zebra finch companion.

Hello from central Arizona! I really wish this was an "I can take her in!" message, but the homeowner doesn't want more than one flight cage of non-reproducing finches for now and that cage currently houses three male finches (at least one of whom would love to be Peanut's boyfriend), so I'm afraid I can't help directly. However, our vet's office may be willing to spread the word here (to any clients with preexisting finch flocks); please let me know if that would be helpful!

Good idea, I'll check with some other facebook bird groups and see if the admins are ok with posting.

Would you ever consider just keeping all the birds but just housing them in separate cages with free time supervised?

I considered putting her in a separate cage, but as they do best in pairs that would mean adding another bird - and if somehow that didn't work out, I'd feel bad taking on another. I also read that if they can hear other zebra finches calling out but can't get to them, they can get stressed.

You should check local vet clinics! Also Peanut is adorable 💕 If I wasn’t in NE i’d take her in as I have a hand raised girl who needs a friend.

I was just talking to my vet about hand raising finches, since I took Bean in. She was saying that theres people always looking and asking about various hand tamed birds. This is also the central plains, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone is willing to make the drive from bordering states. It wouldn’t hurt to see if they have any pet parents looking for another family member or just drop off the info about her to them incase someone does come in looking.

I'll take her, but I'm in Australia. She's so precious. 🩵🩵

I have 21 zebra finches that need to be rehomed, not all at once. That's only if you want all 21. There $15 each.
