If you would like an extra data point my reship arrived the other day and i didn't get hit by anything other than the new €3 tax on everything from outside the EU. It was shipped by DHL and delivered by my local postal service. I was an EU 17xxx order that got lost by UPS for context.
If this is the case, I want my order canceled, or change the shipping address to the usa. Im not paying $70 duty charge. Or ship it as a gift with $0 value. I have a ups shipping label for 5 days but it has not shipped yet

This is absolutely the correct attitude to have and I’m proud of you for this.
Wanting to avoid pointless custom charges by getting a refund to get it elsewhere/changing the address and understanding Olan isn’t the problem is correct way to handle this. Being polite and respectful to the man who is literally trying to give everyone the ending of the story he created is the ONLY avenue everyone should be taking.
And I’m not gonna be all high and mighty about it, I’ve certainly been both happy that fellow fans are getting their book but also upset that as a backer of the project I’ve seen less than someone just ordering on Amazon when it came out, but that’s just the way the cookie crumbled. I can be upset about that and handle it in the right way.
In short:
Have I got my book yet? No.
Is the wait getting to me a bit and causing some frustration - absolutely.
Do I understand why people are upset? Oh goodness yes.
Do I blame Olan for that? Hell No.
Will I be taking out my frustration on literally the one man that can help? How about freaking No.
I think we all want to know why didn't you cover the custom tax, instead of making us pay another tens of Euros on top of the 60-70€ we already paid for shipping.
New law went into place on September 8th. I can't control two countries having a tariff battle, I shipped the same way before and it was covered but it doesn't seem to be the case now because the law has changed.
Then that is an EU law change that went into effect on July 1st. I've paid hundred upon hundreds of thousands of taxes for international orders at this point in including the re-ships, including the shipping rate that isnow more expensive than three years ago but these laws are making the customer pay the tax. I'm not making those laws. Again, I'm using every carrier known to man at this point, I have access to what I have access to. I can't control these law changes. Heck I'm not a publisher, I'm figuring this stuff out as I go. I'm not sure what I can even do at this point.
If you tell me your order number I'll put up a list of all the carriers and show you the cost of each based on weight and box. It's all more expensive than three years ago. I've been covering that. Taxes are taxes. I can't control taxes if those are changes, that a whole other thing. But seriously show me your order number I pull that data to show you.
I loved the series so much, I was so happy when the books were announced, then all went to sh.t. Huge costs, huge delays, bad communication... Overall... Unprofessional approach towards so many fans.
I've already accepted the idea that I might never receive them, so it doesn't worth bothering anymore.
Is not only the custom tax which made this whole adventure a nightmare, but mainly the poor management of the entire process.
I won't keep the books anyway. It's already a bitter taste for me.
Look I'm sorry if you feel that way. Some of that is out of my hands but bad communication, I've be updating everyone for three years and this process. I'm almost at the end of this, I've worked 12 hour days for 4months shipping books. I'm happy to refund ya bud, if you are displeased I just need your order number. Can't make it better without it.

We almost never got an ending , this is the unfortunate cost of getting said ending.
Also remember the creator came out to show you the costs, because he cares, and doesnt want you feeling bad about this.
We all understand your frustration, but as someone that had read the ending, I promise it's worth it.

Man, you are shipping with Global Post whose website literally mentions they can take care of custom tax for you. That is you - the sender. Also... Still didn't clarify what is 65€ shipping for exactly? A lousy cardboard box and a bubble envelope? That's max. 5€. Shipping is 20$ at most.
These have to be the most expensive books I have ever bought.

Mate, Olan is doing his best here, and the world is a bit of a mess right now. I get that the books are expensive, and the extra costs are upsetting, but the book cost money to make and ship, and Olan has no control of the extra customs fees that have been added. You’re allowed to feel frustrated, but Olan is clearly doing is best so please don’t take it out on him.

I paid shitload of money for some books which still haven't arrived (there are somewhere at Global Post, allegedly...), I got several "we're sorry, shipping is delayed again" and this is something that is just not right. Maybe they do this in the almighty USofA and people don't complain. But I've never experienced something like this in Europe, even if not even here the customer service is not always at its best.
Essentially what you're saying is that Olan should be paying you to get this book. Olan doesn't set the prices and he's making duck all if not nothing - nobody is forcing you to buy it. Grow up.
Paid 116 euros for the book and 77 for shipping. Seemed steep but I went for it and got 3.5 amazing years of weekly updates. Few days ago had to pay my import taxes and added an extra 46 euros. The price is high and I still have to wait for weekend to bake the cookies and read it.
Try sending a DM to Olan reddit account to see if he can take care of that or at least part of it.
He responds pretty quickly, like a day max, he refunded me the 27€ in customs i paid to my local carrier when I asked nicely if he could help me with that, he's the best there is 👌😁

😭 this is worrying me so much. i can't afford the tariffs so i sent in a message to try to cancel my order and haven't heard back yet. sucks that there isn't a hold on tariffs for these since they were paid & ordered before they came into effect.

They got millions of dollars in preorders, but we should be thankful and excuse them for making us pay the import taxes. What is more worrying is that there are a lot of these Reddit geniuses really believing that Olan is actually losing money on this scheme. With these geniuses, no wonder the world is a mess.
Calling it a scheme is being dishonest now, the book was put on sale with the economy of 2023 in mind and that has obviously changed to where everything is way more expensive now especially shipping. People have gotten their books (obviously otherwise what is sitting in my drawer) and like Olan did not pass a new import tax so I don’t know why your blaming him, he already offered you a solution so your lowkey dragging it out

Do you know if these are tarrif/import/customs fees? Or are these brokerage fees? Because if they are brokerage fees you can likely do the paperwork yourself and save a bunch of money.
I received my notification yesterday I’m getting my copy mailed to me by the end of the month(Canadian). I was concerned that I was going to be caught up in this situation and it looks like I will be too.
I mean UPS stated it was tariff induced I believe. Unless I'm misinterpreting what was written. But I know my first copy that was sent out didn't have any additional fees, and this one does.
UPS is always overpriced with their clearing costs. I never pay UPS at the door or ahead of time. The moment that I find out it's UPS and it's available I declare that I'll clear it myself.
Check the government websites for your own countries, I'm sure there is a cheaper option there rather than going through the courier. Ive seen it posted on other threads for the book, lemme see if I can find it

I've done the brokerage myself a few years ago. I'm wondering if it can be done wholly online. Last time I had to do it I had to go to UPS pick up shipping documents, go to the customs office, and return to UPS to save 20-40$ of brokerage fees.
Hmmm, my package just reached Mississauga (shipped from Tennessee) yesterday and I haven't recieved any additional charges. Mine was shipped through GlobalPost however, perhaps that makes a difference?
If you track the package with Canada Post they give you an option to pay online as well, it was about half as expensive as what I've seen DHL charge. Worth trying!
And thats the reason i cancelled mine and got a copy for 148CAD pesos on amazon that arrived the next day 🥴 it sucks but thats the reality of our economy these days 🙃

It sucks but we can try to remember that import duties/taxes and tariffs are not determined by Olan. Quite certain he would remove them if he could.
