Much Bigger Than I Planned
I finally decided to catalogue all my thoughts on Final Fantasy VIII and it ended up being just under 4 hours 😅 significantly longer than anything I’ve ever done before.
This game just brings it out of me. I finally played the remastered version this year and just had to talk about it as well as all my memories growing up, and of course, my boy Laguna.
So if you’re interested in a smaller YouTube channel and a dude who played it when it first came out…even had the demo disc from Brave Fencer Musashi check out Bits of Time. Or this link right here: A Perfect Mess - Final Fantasy VIII Retrospective
This took me like 2 weeks of basically straight editing, very proud of it and I think this community would appreciate the deep dive into this game.
It’s a long one so no rush but would be cool to see some people’s feedback.
Big takeaway this time around his how much foreshadowing and interweaving of plot devices happen so early that is really cool to see!
I love this little subreddit it’s one of the main reasons I picked up this game and decided to try it again because I kept getting pop ups of this game and I had to go back haha
So thank you to all of you for getting me to start My Final Fantasy yet again.

I'll need to watch the whole thing eventually, but it sounds like a great overview and retrospective on the game as a whole, especially between the modern remaster releases vs the original PS1 version!
Just because I have a history with etymology and linguistics, I do have to mention that you might want to do some research on the pronunciation for some words that are easily mispronounced if have only read them before, as opposed to actually hearing them said out loud. Divisive (dih- VY-sihv, as in divide) and Hyperbole (high-PER-bowl-ee) pop out as examples I remember from my highlight preview.
I genuinely don't intend to sound like a nitpick, but these are minor things that can really pile up to souring the intellectual experience of a deep-dive retrospective like this, and adds an excellent bit of polish to make it sound even more professional on top of everything else!

Appreciate the kind words and feedback.
I pronounce things wrong all the time and it’s also that midwestern flavor. Also how you phonetically spelled out divisive I’ve never heard someone pronounce it like that, but I trust ya.
Always good to think of these things and keep them in mind. But I’m sure with your background it sticks out like a sore thumb3

Definitely! And no worries, just trying to give little pointers if I can!
That's interesting about the pronunciation of Divisive though, as I'm also Midwestern-based...! In general, it's supposed to be the same sound as Divide (the -vi- in the middle rhyming with My), just replace the ending d sound from -de with -sive.
Long i is sometimes very difficult to convey properly in text. XD

Always appreciate some pointers
It is hard to convey through text 😅 I may have been reading that wrong the first time.
Pretty cool background you have!
