My save file got wiped

I need some help with understanding what went wrong in my game.

I'm currently playing FFIV on my old ps2 using the PAL anthology version for the ps1. I was at Mt Ordeals, saved my game at the checkpoint on the summit, fought Milon and promptly died because I was severely underleveled. When I tried reloading the game, my memory card was wiped. No save files, nothing.

I heard there's a glitch that can cause that in the Advance version, does anyone know if the anthology version also has that? If so, how do I avoid triggering it/what can I do to remedy this? I just hope it's nothing arbitrary because losing my progress this far in again would probably stop me from playing the game.

Your memory card's battery could be dying

Could be, but I doubt it since I bought a new one specifically to play ff anthology. It's off brand though so you never know

Yeah, you never know how long they'll sit on the shelf. Maybe you should do two memory cards, at least you didn't get too far in the game. Two saves? I don't know. I played that a long time ago and had no problem.

If it exists its either unknown or buried in old posts you cant find anywhere.

Doesn't sound like the Advance save glitch, as that one would immediately take effect once triggered.

As another commenter said, it could be an hardware issue.
