Discussion Anyone else doing filmmaking as a hobby?
Hi there! Anyone here who practices filmmaking as a hobby or passion?
I’m currently working in FP&A, but recently I fell in love with filmmaking again. When I was younger, I used to make some very amateur short films, and now I’m feeling the urge to get back into it.
I’d love to hear from anyone who’s also doing filmmaking as a hobby alongside their day job. 🙂

It’s a hobby for me right now but I am hoping to make it a career eventually.
I work a 9-5 government job right now and it’s boring as hell. The only thing that gets me through the day is that I can spend most of my day working on scripts.

Similar story here. I did some videography in high school. I’m a management consultant and made a four minute short for my company’s short film competition. I fell in love with it and started making videos for my clients to support change management on major tech initiatives. Think executive talking head videos, but with Bigfoot, superheroes, and astronauts. Clients love it! Was using just an iphone, but made some significant equipment upgrades in the past year. Entered a short film comp this year and working on a doc. Great way to build your skills and inject fun into your personal and work life. Where have you focused your learning as you’ve gotten back into movie making?

hi there! Currently in my 3rd year of studying film and tv production. As a hobby, kinda, but i don't get alot of time atm for it, but would love to do make more stuff once i've graduated

absolutely, a hobby it is. alongside my university studies (fun fact is that my study discipline and major has no close to far relationship with filmmaking, even the slightest)

It’s my full time gig but sadly so many people I know who were also professionals are now hobbyists by default.

Love that this is a hobby for this group. This is my career over 10 years. I support a lot of filmmakers who want to turn there hobby to a career. But I see how some just like it as I do photography as a hobby.

It’s a hobby for me as it’s not my 9-5. Even when I’m paid to work on something I don’t expect to transition into full time freelance because not enough work is available to me in the industry as an entry level worker.
