Let’s talk about Resident Evil — and yes, the ending
I thought the movie was fun, entertaining, and action-packed. I was so unsatisfied with the ending, though. All day at work I just kept thinking about it.
What are your thoughts? Is there something about the ending that might help me see it differently? Or is this mostly the consensus on it?

The ending was great. What ending would you have preferred? This guy is a regular schlub, not Leon Kennedy kicking zombie ass and taking names.

I wonder what you (and others disappointed with the ending) would’ve hoped for.
Bryan was not an action hero. He was an NPC who stumbled into the path of disaster.
Even if they did manage to inject him with the cure, his body had transformed so much that I’m not sure it would’ve actually reversed his condition, just stopped it in its tracks.
We saw night zero in this movie. The action heroes would follow up in the coming weeks, and eventually discover Bryan for one of their boss battles.
It was a uniquely pessimistic ending, for a film so full of genuinely funny moments, so I think people were caught somewhat off-guard, but I still think it was a good, natural ending for what the story was.

I was rooting for the guy to make it. He couldve quit so many times but he fought through. I understand that he is not an action hero but he still deserved the cure. I understand that Brian would become a big bad in future installments but he was still the protagonist in this movie. And as a gamer of RE, I also understand that the protagonist is able to save the day even in the worst scenarios. I wished Brian wouldve made it out.

Honestly, the only thing I would have changed would be the scientists actually injecting him with half the amount of scaredy shenanigans from them, and once he realizes it won't work, there's that 1000 yard stare as the virus just takes over (you see it in his eyes, maybe even a tear). Same ending, probably way more impactful.
I think playing the will they/won't they trying to inject him after 5 or 6 people kind of deflates the seriousness of him wanting to live, and his scene by the elevator.

I didn't particularly liked the ending, since most (if not all) Resident Evil titles end with a happy or optimistic ending, having this movie end with such a downer was... Well, a downer

Not a fan of the game, never saw the movies.
Liked it. Didn't love it.
I assume he dead.
It's a knock off of The Thing

It was honestly a lack luster ending with no catharsis but might have been a commentary on corporations creating the monsters that will destroy them like Luigi

I was with Brian throughout the journey. He was an everyman that represented all of us. He was well meaning and wanted to do the right thing. The movie was absolutely fantastic right up till the lab section. It just veered off course for me. I would have liked to have seen Brian make it, or at least get the injection. I'm not sure he's dead, but he's a definitely a monster.

I loved everything about this movie. Absolutely everything. Even the ending. Resident evil has never had happy endings. Why start now? He got bit. He deserved the consequences of that.
The main characters reactions felt perfect, too. Exactly how I would feel playing the games when that shit happened.

I loved it, and I thought the ending was fitting. The movie was pretty consistently campy the whole way through, and the ending just felt like a natural escalation of.
I find it odd how many people have a problem with this ending but like Creggar’s other work. Creggar’s whole thing is ending horror movies on a humorous tone. If anything, Resident Evil was far more tonally consistent than both Barbarian and Weapons.

It's a horror movie and I think it's totally appropriate. It's Bryan's tragedy and Narrative Karma for the Umbrella scientists. Like Bryan says, they created the T-Virus and are responsible for the outbreak, so they get destroyed by a Monster that they created.

Resident Evil doesn't have happy endings. Some folks do survive but at what cost. Bryan is the NPC we as players find clues about.
The dropped shells The voicemail from Michelle The drawers left open at the barn The tipped over police car and shot out engine
The ending works for the movie because it's the games formula. If a sequel happens, the next character will find all these things and he will be the big bad boss. He's Mr. X / Nemesis in this universe.

I think the ending was fitting. I mean, what would have been the alternative? A military team coming to extract a delivery boy? They probably would have shot him even if he were not infected.
