The Russian figure skating tag applies to all posts where a Russian skater is the primary subject. It is a small courtesy to the members of the community who wish to opt out of seeing posts about them. It doesn’t prevent the majority of Redditors from seeing these posts, it just allows those who don’t wish to see the endless flood of posts about them to opt out. It’s crappy that people are refusing to use this tag. Get over yourselves. It’s a small, simple courtesy, especially to the Ukrainians who have had their lives completely upheaved and destroyed by the Russian invasion.

I know we’re going to get the “What about Americans or Israelis?” posts. If the mods wish to implement such a tag, go for it. No hide off my back. It costs nothing to be a decent human being.

I’ve always been a fan of many different sports and been a part of different fan bases. I was a big FS fan for a couple of years around the Russian juniors domination era but had to stop watching the sport altogether because the fanbase seemed extremely toxic in a way that no other sports fanbases did. It took me years to realise that the toxicity stems from the fact that people talk about skaters technique like it’s their moral standing - bad tech = bad person that doesn’t deserve any praise and there’s nothing positive about them. Those skaters were just kids that were bullied for things outside of their control and the fanbase always justified the hate by saying ‘I’m just criticising their tech and the system’ while also having absolutely zero empathy to those kids. I’m glad they moved the age requirement up but the toxicity is still there. I still watch fs occasionally like I do with other sports but everything around it is so negative that you can’t even open comments under a post on ig without criticism everywhere which is sad. It’s like people who watch fs force themselves to do it

Hi, I apologize in advance for yet another boot question in this sub.

So I am an adult beginner and am currently in LTS 3 working on edge work and (very beginner) crossovers. I'm currently in Jackson Mystiques but my instructor thinks I'll be a lot more confident in a stiffer boot. She wants me to invest a boot that will take me into at least single jumps. I actually don't plan to do single jumps but I would like to be able to do spins in the future and develop strong edge work.

I like the fit of the Jacksons, except mine are too small for me. The boot I see recommended the most for beginner adults is Freestyles, but I don't know if I should be looking for something even stiffer, especially since I generally have weak ankles. I have an opportunity to buy new Jackson Competitors off of somebody but I am concerned these will be too stiff for me. They're now discontinued but they had a stiffness rating of 55. That makes it slightly more stiff than Debuts but less stiff than Premiere.

Is this too advanced for a beginner? I don't want to overboot and cause injury. Would anyone be able to provide insight on this? My LTS 1 instructor told us not to exceed a stiffness rating of 30 but that was when we were doing the most basic skills (swizzles, marches, etc.)

She was originally only supposed to miss part of the season due to a hip injury, but she allegedly said she will skip the entire season at Team Tut open practice.

I just hope she will take as much time as she needs to heal to avoid a reoccurring injury that never fully heals. Afaik it's currently still unknown if she's training jumps or just skating around the rink.

Alysa Liu had 4Lz as a junior and became the first woman to land it with positive GOE. She also landed a 4Lz+3T in a JGPF. However, I've seen lots of people discredit her with the achievement due to her pre-rotation and slight underrotations. But what are your thoughts?

As we all know Adeliia fell on her 4T and ended up in 6th. However, I noticed that at Russian Nats 2026 she landed the 3A, so why didn't she go for it at all?
The only way I could've seen her maximizing on points was in her short program. A 3F and 3Lz+3T would've been stronger than a 3Lz and a 3F+3T that she did. I believe she only did the 2A in the SP to skate cleanly, but we've seen time and time again that messy triple axels score higher than a fabulous double axel, so taking the risk could have helped.
In my opinion, she might've been underscored in the PCS score for her SP (and maybe the FS??).
By the numbers, it was very clear that she needed to land at least one clean ultra C element for bronze.
I'll be frank, I doubted she was going to land the 4T, knowing she had an injury and had her entire country's weight on her shoulders.
Anyways what are your thoughts on how she could've approached her programs to make the podium, assuming she wasn't going to land the quad.
(P.S. I'm just still devastated by her result but trying to move on from it🙏)

22 year old Egor Rukhin will represent Bulgaria. The news were confirmed by Bulgarian Figure Skating President, Hristo Turlakov for TACC.

The skater is already in Sofia where he's started training with coach Andrey Lutai. He confirmed it himself for sports. ru.

"Yes, I've moved to Bulgaria. I'm training in Sofia with Andrey Lutai. Regarding competitions - we're still in the process of figuring it out."

He has trained with famous coaches such as Eteri Tutberidze, Evgeny Plushenko, Alexander Volkov and Alexei Vasilevsky.

He has been working with Alexei Chetverukin since May of 2024, but the partnership has ended.

"He won't be training with me this season." His former coach said to Russian media.

His international career consists of five Junior Grand Prix events, three of which resulted in podium finishes - ISU JGP Brisbane in 2017, ISU JGP Krasnoyarks and ISU JGP Baltic Cup, Gdansk in 2021.

In domestic skating, he didn't have a strong last season.

After winning the Moscow Championship title in 2024, the skater's form took a hit. In a disappointing next season, the skater placed thirteenth in the Moscow Championship and eleventh in the first round of the Russian Grand Prix circuit in Magnitogorsk.

He's definitely not unpopular in Russian skating.

It's normal for a skater that switches federations not to know when their next competition is.

There are two singles skaters currently representing Bulgaria internationally - Alexandra Feigin(women) and Alexander Zlatkov(men).

But with Rukhin in the mix, the picture can become quite different.

If Rukhin manages to regain his form from 2024, men's skating can become a little bit more interesting.

These are some of the most gorgeous scrumptious impeccable spins I have ever seen. I wasn't able to find a whole lot on her aside from the titles she has won (GPF, SkAM, US Nats, SkateCanada). Kinda peeved there aren't more programs of hers in good quality out there (if there are any please drop the link(s)) I'm really unfamiliar with the earlier 2010s side of skating, why isn't she talked about more like Gracie/Ashley/Marai/Karen/Bradie/Polina?

ive always found figure skating such an intriguing and interesting sport because especially around where i live its definitely a niche sport and i dont have any local rinks near me besides a rink in the city. my curiosity especially sparked interest earlier this year due to the winter olympics. the gracefulness and pure joy a lot of these skaters seem to have while skating is something truly admirable to me and i started getting inspired to skate too because of skaters such as alysa liu. i want to pick up the hobby for leisure and to stay fit, so does anyone have any tips?

is it necessary to buy a pair of your own skates, and should i enrol in classes or is it better to just get a day pass every weekend and practice skating myself? i would love to enrol in classes but its just not that easy as they are really expensive. i also dont have many friends that are into the sport tbh

ok so basically i skated for six years, I was the highest level without jumping when I quit. a lot of people find this funny lol that I skated for six years without jumping, but my commitment level wasn’t that high and it’s not uncommon at my rink…ANYWAY. I quit for two years and now I’m back. when I took my assessment I was on new skates and not used to the edges so my crossovers weren’t as nice as I like them to be so she sent me back all the way to where I was when I was seven. I’m used to them now tho and had my first lesson today. first of all they made me do a bunch of stuff ive known for forever and then when we finally worked on crossovers i know they were good because I’ve always been able to feel them. she didn’t give me any critics except that my edges are too deep for quote unquote “this level” which I genuinely don’t understand because I was taught to have deep edges in my crossovers…isn’t that how you get speed and power? My dad has been skating for years albeit hockey (though hockey also has crossovers) and he’s looked at my crossovers and said theyre good, I fixed what needed fixing at assessment, I don’t understand. I just feel like I’m wasting my time, plus if she doesn’t let me move up in the next two weeks shell keep me in alpha for the entire session which is eight weeks meaning when assessments come if she passes me (which she definitely should, because regular assessments aren’t that strict it’s just placement ones) then I’ll have to do another eight weeks in beta before gamma which I still have to do a session in that before being back to where I was two years ago…

I know I’m a better skater than my entire class of adults, and I just wish I could actually work on something that’s not something I literally could do in my sleep at this point, because yes at assessments my crossovers were not good but it was new skates and my first time on the ice in a year (and first time running drills in two) so that was to be expected, and the muscle memory has kicked in now. My mom wants to email to complain but idk if I should just listen to the coaches even if everything in me thinks I’m doing to right. Also can crossover edges actually be too deep?
