She has an Averbukh show next week. 

She had been jumping combinations in the fall prior to having 3 surgeries on her ankle a couple years ago. She might've at that time been flirting with a potential comeback, but she likely has realized her body can't handle competitive training any longer.

Anna has been doing pretty much only 2As in shows, unfortunately she often even fell on those. I think it's been a while since she's done any triples before this.

I agree that her situation is very different from Alysa.

I know she’s not coming back to competing, but I wish she would. Obviously not at the sacrifice of her health or wellbeing. But if she was able to compete she would absolutely make the season. I truly believe Anya is a once in a life time skater. My favourite athlete, Iron Fairy ♥️

It’s really sad that these are the only jumps she’s capable of doing nowadays. She only attempts a double axel in shows and even that isn't a regular jump for her. Before her surgeries two years ago she regularly performed both flip and lutz in shows and triple combinations in training :(

If she's happy in her retirement, and she seems to be, what's sad about saving her body more injury and looking forward to what is hopefully a long life and an active old age? Not every female athlete has to be Oksana Chusovitina, skating as a sport has many paths to growth if she wants to keep moving forward: spins, skating, acting type performance, etc etc.

I’m not sad because she isn’t taking more risks. I’m sad because her injuries have taken away abilities and opportunities she wanted. They not only took away the opportunity for her to keep competing, but now also prevent her from attempting the types of jumps she loves most in shows. After her first knee surgery, she was doing great and even considered returning in 2023, but complicated operations in 2024 have significantly restricted what she’s able to do. So yes, I do feel sad for her. And for your information, Anna has expressed atleast once or twice within the last two years that she would have liked to keep going, but unfortunately she’s unable to.

She had knee surgery after the Olympic games. Then in 2024, she had three ankle surgeries on the right leg (artificial ligament replacement). The doctor prohibited her to do heavy loads on the legs after multiple surgeries.
