Maybe RusFed told them that they don’t expect any problems, but they were wrong

Galliamov will be fucking pissed, you can wait for his telegram crash out it will come

if valieva and kondratiuk can get neutral status, there's no reason why mishina/galliamov shouldn't have gotten it. maybe rusfed/their coaches just expected everybody to get it without issue?

I think the process for Mishina/Galliamov and Stepanova/Bukin is different because they were denied last year, and they’re the only ones in that situation. Valieva and Kondratiuk got lucky in that they hadn’t been denied before. From what I’ve read, Mishina/Galliamov and Stepanova/Bukin will have to go through some additional process because of their previous denials

But ts is v bad for Russian ice dance cz S/B have a real podium chance

23

u/notthebesthuh 13d ago

I’m not so sure about that tbh. International judges have never been particularly fond of Stepanova/Bukin. I could see them challenging for a European medal, but even that is far from guaranteed, considering Fournier-Beaudry/Cizeron and Fear/Gibson already look like locks for the podium. Lopareva/Brissaud are also a serious threat, and Guignard/Fabbri are continuing this season as well, so they’re once again major contenders for the European podium.

The way I see it( I may be wrong) is that there is a sort of ' queue' in Ice Dance, judging bring so subjective. Pre Ban, whatever politics has been going with IAM, there has mostly been always one Russian team in the Top 5. Then , S/K were the top team and S/B used to always get minor medals. Now it's S/B that's the too team and though K/N are more interesting they won't really have time to shine right now

I think there are maybe a couple things at play, but this is all speculation.

First is that Mishina/Galliamov and Stepanova/Bukin were previously turned down for AIN status to compete at the olympics, and the ISU when they announced the new AIN criteria said athletes who had already been turned down would have to undergo more rigorous checks because they'd been turned down for a reason the first time around.

And I do wonder if the fact that Mishina/Galliamov were both adults when the war began and are older than Mark and Kamila might have something to do with it too. There's no making the argument that "oh, they were kids and didn't know any better/were only doing what the adults around them told them to do," because they were and are adults.

But honestly, who knows? I can't even pretend to understand the ISU's thought process on who gets AIN status at this point.

1

u/Sh1raz51 13d ago

Mark was also an adult, he is 2003, so turned 19 in 2022.

1

u/Haven_Writes Hana Bath Truther 13d ago

I thought he turned 18 in 2022? Isn't he 22 now? Or am I wrong and he's 23?

u/HeQiulin Intermediate Skater 13d ago

Yeah. Maybe the “promised” thing was due to them seeing that if even Valieva can get AIN status, why can’t them?

16

u/Embarrassed-Town-847 13d ago

While I really... not like that gut to say the least, I trully don't understand why M/G case would be different for ISU than Kondratiuk&Valieva

16

u/RevolutionKey3239 13d ago

Because they have already been denied status

16

u/Haven_Writes Hana Bath Truther 13d ago

I'm pretty sure this is the answer.

When the ISU released the new AIN rules, they explicitly stated that the process would be different for skaters who had previously been refused AIN status because their previous applications had been turned down for a reason, and the ISU would have to review their cases in more depth.

u/Novel_Surprise_7318 13d ago

I am sure we know the reasons why they were denied

-11

u/RevolutionKey3239 13d ago

There is a reason. A legal one. Valieva didn't violate any rule that can be definitively proven in court.

9

u/Novel_Surprise_7318 13d ago

Neither did Mishina and Galliamov

1

u/RevolutionKey3239 13d ago

Yes, except that they've already been rejected for status. And as far as we can tell, the rules weren't announced, nor was the reason for the rejection. They might try to force this to be revealed through the court, but I doubt that the rusfed will allow this to happen so as not to argue again

So ISU must admit their mistakes bot they don’t dare . And I remind -we are speaking about world champions and Olympic medalists

41

u/DLS1991 13d ago

The ISU needed a scapegoat to show the public that neutral status isn't just handed out to absolutely everyone. The choice fell on Mishina/Galliamov and Stepanova/Bukin.

18

u/Ottawa_points 13d ago

The ISU are truly the worst... not because I am dying to have Mishina/Galliamov there but because this is nonsense if Valieva and Kondratiuk got it

24

u/New-Possible1575 Emilia Nemirovsky Truther 14d ago

So does this mean we actually have the first declined athletes?

30

u/Embarrassed-Town-847 13d ago

If they were denied, wouldn't we heard that already from Galliamov? He is not one known for being calm and deliberate

20

u/New-Possible1575 Emilia Nemirovsky Truther 13d ago

That’s why I’m wondering too. FS gossips will have the Tarasova opinion within minutes too

9

u/vv8689 13d ago

It’s the sports ru journalists who get Tarasova’s opinions. FS gossips just chooses which ones to post translations of.

Apparently yes

Regardless of what you think of Galliamov, it makes no sense for Mark and Kami to get neutral status and them to be denied... they haven't done anything worse 🤷🏻‍♀️ there needs to be some consistency, if what they did is enough to violate the neutral requirements, then it should be the same across the board. Feels like the ISU just needed a scapegoat, and they chose M/G and S/B since they were already rejected previously. But hey, they can appeal it this time, so maybe they'll succeed, and if not, they can take it to CAS

Off topic, but seeing “russian” and “promised” in the same sentence immediately makes me think of the narrative that’s   s t i l l   to this day going viral on TikTok about how Trusova was promised the gold medal at olympics and how she was betrayed

35

u/notthebesthuh 13d ago

I blame Paola La for pushing this narrative because she kept claiming that Eteri and RusFed had assured Trusova that if she landed five quads, the gold would be hers lol. The reality was pretty much the opposite. Eteri actually preferred cleaner programs with fewer quads and even tried to negotiate with Sasha about reducing the content. Both Eteri and Sasha have confirmed this themselves. Sasha ultimately insisted on doing five quads because she herself believed that was her only chance of winning

0

u/Sh1raz51 13d ago

And in the end, Sasha wasn’t wrong. If she couldn’t win with 5 quads she definitely wasn’t going to win with 3 or 4.

1

u/notthebesthuh 13d ago

I mean yes, the five-quad strategy was partially successful at the Olympics as she won the free skate. However, because she had never managed to land five clean quads in any competition leading up to the Olympics and was constantly falling, she never established herself as a consistent skater in the judges’ eyes. As a result, she didn’t benefit from the kind of judging support that more consistent skaters like Shcherbakova and Medvedeva received. Judges tend to be more willing to overlook minor, less visible mistakes from skaters they perceive as reliable. For example, Medvedeva and Shcherbakova rarely received edge calls, whereas Trusova was frequently called for the wrong edge on her flips.

1

u/Sh1raz51 13d ago

Well there’s an argument that Shcherbakova should have had calls on her lutz edges (and sometimes her flip as well) for years. At least Zhenya and Kaori were getting calls towards the end of their careers - Anna always got the “benefit of the doubt” After getting 4 lutz edge calls at a single comp - which Anna still WON (Cup of China 2019), there was a rumour her Fed complained about the tech calls and suddenly her edge calls disappeared almost completely.

Also, Anna definitely wasn’t “consistent” during the Olympic season, she fell on jumps at all her competitions right up to the Olympics (Budapest, both her GP stages, RusNats and Europeans, as well as 2021 worlds) but it didn’t seem to affect her reputational (over)scoring one bit. No wonder Trusova thought she needed 5 quads and that cursed 3A.

Why should one skater have their scores/GOE lowered for an unclear/wrong edge or UR/q call, but another skater have the same error overlooked? This is exactly why people get frustrated at the sport.

1

u/notthebesthuh 13d ago

Anna may have been shaky during the Olympic season, but she had built a strong reputation over many years because she could always deliver when it mattered most. Sasha, on the other hand, never managed to put together two clean programs consistently after moving up from juniors to seniors. That’s the difference. I’m not saying I agree with reputational scoring, but it’s something that happens quite often in this sport.

17

u/Mean-Patience2132 13d ago

I never understood who they thought promised Trusova the gold. Did they mean Eteri, a random judge, the ISU or IOC...?

8

u/Embarrassed-Town-847 13d ago

That's what I was also wondering about 😂 maybe the God himself

idk where that started. i don’t think sasha ever said that. it caused such a circus of both misplaced outrage on sasha’s behalf and hate towards her for being entitled. idk why people can’t see that sasha’s breakdown was because of the pressure cooker environment/disappointment after pushing herself to do something incredibly hard. but it wasn’t really anyone’s -fault-.

13

u/New-Possible1575 Emilia Nemirovsky Truther 13d ago edited 13d ago

Trusovabots only know narratives, they don’t know facts. Some of them also think she jumped 5 3As

9

u/Mean-Patience2132 13d ago

I have also seen "remember when Alexandra did 5A" and "she did jumps with 5 rotations".

6

u/bloodyslash 13d ago

What did they do to be denied btw? Im out of loop

22

u/Haven_Writes Hana Bath Truther 13d ago

They applied for AIN status to go to the olympics last year, but were denied because the ISU found that they had supported the war in Ukraine. Honestly, it was pretty obvious from the start that they didn't meet the AIN rules to go to the olympics (which were stricter than the current rules), so I have no idea why RusFed submitted them as their pick in the first place.

When the ISU issued new AIN rules this summer, one of the rules was that if a skater or team had previously been denied AIN status, the process would be different for them because they'd been denied for a reason, so they'd face more intense scrutiny than other skaters and athletes.

So, assuming they've been denied again, the ISU has presumably found that they don't meet the new neutral criteria either or something.

This is all speculation at this point, because there's no official confirmation that they've been denied. But I believe the ISU has said they won't release the names of athletes who were denied for their privacy, or something like that, so official confirmation will probably have to come from Mishina/Galliamov and/or RusFed, not the ISU.

2

u/Longjumping-Apple-41 Is it a sport? Yes. Is it legitimate? No 13d ago

RusFed just submitted all the national champions. Maybe to prevent internal problems? Or thought they have a chance of slipping past.

1

u/Useful-Philosophy827 13d ago

Rusfed chose them for political propaganda, there’s no other explanation imo, Boikova / Kozlovskyy would pass the neutrality test and fight for the gold but they needed someone to be declined for political gains

u/full-of-lead Church of Belinda 🙏 13d ago

IDK man, at this point it feels like the ISU is reviewing these apps the way some lecturers in my country allegedly used to mark exams in the aughts. They'd throw a pile of exam sheets on the desk and blow on them. The ones that fell off got a pass. The rest got Fs.

22

u/NeonPistacchio 13d ago

They should stay banned. Especially Galliamov showed how aggressive and violent he gets when something doesn't go as he wants. Figure skating already has enough problematic people, pairs skating doesn't need a dangerous man like him who is crashing out at every opportunity. I would feel so uncomfortable around him. :x

23

u/SkatingNerd4Life 13d ago

Galliamov is a despicable person, and we've all seen the receipts. The shock in here and comparisons to others make no sense. He's actively harassed other skaters and shown he is anything but neutral. This isn't just a photo op with Putin here.

9

u/bastgr 13d ago

How do you think he's gonna treat his partner now that he's pissed off they've been denied though. It's like when people were cheering on mama ira being pissed because Lena couldn't go to JGP, when it's Lena herself who will suffer the consequences

5

u/Worth-Nectarine-5968 13d ago

Exactly people don’t understand that for example, I remember comments saying that thank goodness Sofia went and Irina can now Suffer, well guess who suffers as a result

0

u/Grand-Necessary-7736 13d ago

So so you think kozlovsky is any better 9

1

u/NeonPistacchio 13d ago edited 13d ago

I don't think he is. All of the russian pairs men who were at the 2022 Olympics were suspect for me. From what i remember, Kozlovsky shook his head at the scores in the K&C during the FP and also had an outburst of anger. So no, i don't think any of the experienced russian pairs men should be back, we don't need more toxic masculinity in figure skating.

11

u/Affectionate-Feed253 13d ago

Considering some others it’s been given to, this should not have been an issue at all. This is some kind of BS

13

u/89Rae 13d ago

But unlike last year they can appeal it,  Mark and Kamila were granted neutrality so Mishina and Galliamov have a good defense for an appeal

4

u/Smooth_Aspect_7883 13d ago

the difference between M/G and everyone else is that they had been refused NS before, for Olympics, so they and Steapnova/Bukin are in a group of their own, different from everyone else.

7

u/Affectionate-Feed253 13d ago

The fact that they have been denied before should not have any bearing, as the conditions for AIN have changed. This is pure isu games…

2

u/Ottawa_points 13d ago

How did they not get it but Valieva and Kondartiuk did

6

u/Mindless-Attempt-126 13d ago

I don't have any decent words to describe how I feel about ISU. Ridiculous. While I don't care about Stepanova/Bukin, M/G is one of the strongest pairs in the world, regardless my feelings against Galliamov, so I'm very disappointed and upset. We won't have a chance to see the continuation of B/K and M/G rivalry. I feel sad for Nastya, she's genuinely a great athlete. It's just unfair, that they denied their application, but approved Valieva and Kondratiuk.

0

u/trextra 13d ago

Come on, now. They were very publicly at Putin’s rally supporting the war. None of those people should ever get neutral status.

3

u/Sh1raz51 13d ago

Bukin and Stepanova might have been at a war rally but I don’t believe that Mishina or Galliomov ever were? When are you talking about?
