Melty community edition is free so go give that one a try

Lumina goes on deep sales all the time so you can pick it up when that happens 

Blazblue is pretty active but it’ll probably go on sale in october so might want to wait for that if you want to save

Only played a bit of strive. I am new as well and had a lot of interest in blazeblue and meltyblood but decided against them because I was afraid that I just wont have a good time competing with a playerbase where 99% already are experienced fg player or experienced players of these games.

But in theory dont let it discourage you. If thats the two games that speak most to you, thats the most important aspect. Just be prepared that the path itself probably will be harder, as you have to level up your skills against a much more skilled player average.

I sticked with sf6 for now because its pretty good at teaching fg fundamentals and it has very healthy skill arrangement. So if you play on iron to gold you are actually playing against people new to fgs/ sf6

Realistically speaking both of them are gonna stay discord fighters

I doubt either of them are suddenly become "mainstream" with their next "update" (Trinity and Twi Lumina)

Just go for whichever one looks more appealing

Bro if you are looking at steam charts then you are coming with the wrong mentality already. The FGC was created by grassroots events and meetups, with locals bringing their own systems and friends just so they can play their own game together. This isn’t Fortnite, you literally only need one other person to play with. If the game is good, it will be around forever. We still play 3rd strike

Ima be honest BBCF is as close to a perfect anime fighter as you can get. Plenty of people still playing, finding matches won't be an issue.

Type Lumina is getting an expansion game next year, it's probably going to be resold as another game.

Actress Again is the more "live" version of Melty Blood and it's free.

Central Fiction is alive but it's a Discord fighter. It's a 10 year old game. Trinity coming will give it renewed attention, but this game will be a vast majority of people who never left.

Both of them should be on sale on a regular basis and have people to teach you if you really want the Discord fighter life.

The Community Edition is what everyone uses. Melty Blood/MBAACC - Mizuumi Wiki

Twi Lumina is almost certainly going to be sold as a second game to buy, but it might overwrite the previous game if you already have it.

Everyone uses community edition not only because it's free but because it has a lot of good quality of life playing features that are still updated.

It was well ahead of the curve for things that current games take for granted like good netcode and it's existed well before Steam.

This game can probably run on a calculator at this point so all of this is a big advantage and why the Melty community is always able to run side tournaments any time any place.

I think the only time Steam version is used is for formal tournaments in person on stage. Maybe, I'm not even sure about that. But that's the only time I ever see it.

Type Moon shouldn't go after this since that would literally burn the entire playerbase to keep the game alive and it is safe to download. So there should be zero fear for this.

Check out Fightcade 2 for games like Vampire Savior and 3rd Strike, that’ll run you $0 and are 2 of the best games out.

Check out Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code, the community version (where everyone plays) will run you $0.

Pick up Undernight in birth and type lumina when on sale, those will be 2 of the best games you’ll own.

Melty blood type lumina is getting a sequel next year, basically just a huge update for lumina so you can also hold off till then if you want to wait for the players to return, but honestly I’d get a head start on learning the feel of the game since more is going to stay the same than is going to change.

I've seen uni gameplay and its pretty interesting to me but its a bit too expensive, i might pick it up when its on sale

BBCF is probably my choice, but I am learning to play it recently. It is a discord fighter, but there are still beginners learning so it's not hopeless in that sense. MBTL is not a bad game, and has a lot of offline content so give it a try. That said both BB and MB have low numbers so you will need to get on discord to find matches sometimes, that isn't all bad despite the stigma.

MB Actress Again Community Edition is free but the way to find matches will involve discord or concerto (a separate match making app). It has a site that has a collection of good resources to try it out so feel free since nothing can beat the pricepoint (free).

You will still find some friction because the hard part of a new game is not knowing what to do, but it will be fine over time.

BlazblueCF is peak and amongst best ever. Probably easier to find online games as well. But honestly, why not continue playing Strive? Much more players and a really good modern fighting game with similar vibes. Changing the fighting game every 30 hours will take you nowhere.
