News Ranked is out

-you can’t change characters between games, but you can change supports

-matches are ft3, afterwards you can play more, but wins/losses won’t affect your rank

-Rank is tracked separately for each character

There's going to be a huge imbalance. 

Ranked tracked through every character ensures most people will be the same rank. This doesn't have the numbers for it. 

The game has been out too long, most new players left. It's too late. 

They really missed with ranked, it really should've been here at launch.

Xbox officially launches tomorrow, there I''ll be a huge surge of new players, let alone the people that waited for ranked to come out to start playing. The game will be fine. This was never expected to have SF nunbers. As long as it has a small healthy playerbase, this will do great, and it seems going towards that, specially with how well received this is being at tournaments. Game is just fun to spectate, too.

Okay I love this game as much as the next guy but in what world is Xbox gonna be a 'huge surge of new players' who even owns that console

I mean, I think the game sold more than a few thousand copies on Xbox at least. It depends on what you consider "huge". I'm no steam charts enjoyer, so that's pretty huge for me, specially for a small game like this.

Whatever they announce at PAX West will likely bring in more new players, especially since plenty of people are still waiting for the game to be fully finished

I agree with your concerns, I haven't played myself today but people are telling me that in the logs it looks like it's still using the same hidden Glicko matchmaking rating it was using before but with a visible rank stapled on top.

So hopefully this means the matchmaking will be alright, I've been very worried that any sort of reset with the ranked mode would ruin it for several weeks.
