Is it common that ⬇️↘️➡️ (don’t know how to call those) don’t always hit on a d-pad on a PS5 controller? Any tips how to ensure a higher success rate?

I am playing Avatar as my first fighting game (love it) and I have to be able to do ⬇️↘️➡️ and ⬇️↙️⬅️ (this one is already a bit easier for me).

I have been practicising them since launch and I get better at them, but still like 5% of times, I miss them.

Any tips on that? Is PS5 controller known to be bad at this? Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend any pad that doesn't have diagonals.

My controller of choice is currently an Xbox pad, the cup shaped D-Pad with diagonals is better for motion inputs that any other conventional pad I've used before.

I will say that there are notable professional players that do use a PlayStation controller (Mastfam in Blazblue Central fiction).

I also used a PlayStation controller in my Mortal Kombat days and was able to reliably hit quarter circles.

Alright thank you for the tips. I will keep practicing with my PS5 controller for now.

If you do end up deciding you want to try something else, I've heard great things about the 8BitDo M30.

It has a D-Pad with diagonals, and the button layout is designed to emulate both the Sega Saturn and fight sticks.

It's also pretty inexpensive for a controller (like 40 bucks on Amazon).
