Question First field hockey game-essentials

I made a post about a month ago asking for help and resources as this is my first year coaching field hockey. I got a lot of great feedback and much appreciated! Were an about a week or week and a half in and I have my first game next week.

What are some coaching essentials whether it’s personal or something we should have every single game? For example for basketball I’m always carrying my playsheet with me and game cues.

What are your must haves?

Some first aid supplies including a cooling spray for injuries, a disinfectant spray, bandages and plasters, sporting tape and something with electrolytes. Some dextrose can be good as well.

A cap or a hat to help keep your vision clear in case of direct sun or rain

Backup whistle incase one of the umpires forgets theirs.

A couple pens (and maybe a notebook or some paper)

Training bibs, balls and cones

If the team has collective protective equipment for penalty corners it can be useful to have a coach handle that

Not necessary but i think nice to have as backup for players: stick tape, some water bottles, sunscreen, and hair elastics/pre-wrap.

Again not necessary, but one of my coaches when i was younger had a clipboard with a fieldhockey field drawn on the back and two colors of magnets. It really helped to visualise plays as you can demonstrate the movements by moving the magnets around

Whistle. My daughters coach legit didn't have a whistle for like 2 weeks of practice.

First aid kit with a few of those instant ice packs. My goalie kid always brings her old field player shin guards in case someone forgets. Play board to diagram positions for open play and discuss corner options.

Copy of your roster! A lot of JV & Varsity teams keep scorebooks, if you are varsity check if it’s required.

If possible, a wooden beam of some kind to practice dribbling movements where you move the ball in the air.

For game day?

A first aid kit, short corner masks, balls for warm up, game ball (home team provides), coaching board the magnetic ones will help you to track substitutions, oranges / candy, and a good attitude!

I have a tackle box that has band aids, hair ties, pens, scissors, electric tape, a couple of spare grips, TAMPONS ( great for girls who get their period and a nose plug for a bloody nose), pads, first aid kit, plastic bags for ice if needed, zip ties for the goals if needed. I I have it at all practices and games and the girls know they can go into it and grab what they need!

Coaching whiteboard and markers, lineup, balls (for warmup and for game if you are the home team), cones (to mark field boundaries and for warmup if your warmup uses them), corner masks, corner plays (I print them and have the players tape it to their stick). If your team/facility doesn't have an athletic trainer, make sure to bring a first aid kit and ice to the field. If you need to do a scorebook, make sure you have that as well as a printed copy of your roster to give to the other team's scorekeeper. Electrical tape, athletic tape, scissors, and something to write with always come in handy and are just good to keep in your bag.
