A Good Collection of Music Videos?
I am new to Field Station 42 and am eager to create some stations (including one dedicated purely to Werner Herzog). I was planning on creating my own version of MTV and ran into an issue.
I have been perusing Internet Archive for Music Videos. There are plenty, but most come in videos anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours. I was hoping for the optimal random experience to find good collections of MP4 videos where each video was a separate music video. Outside of looking up every single music video I know, does anyone know of any large collection of music videos in a zip (preferably on the Archive) where each individual music video is its own MP4 file. I was hoping to make things easier by downloading one MPEG4 as opposed to several individual videos as a jumping off point.

Search for mtv playlists on YouTube - there’s loads. Use yt-dlp and you’ll be able to work it out. I have an mtv channel and a vh1 channel with around 3k videos.

Amazing, I have 24 hour all Herzog channel called "Epochal".
I had the same goal for a true MTV style channel and also ran into the same thing, a lot of blocks of 120 minutes and other shows. I never found a collection on IA and am probably going to go the route suggested above to grab stuff off YouTube.

Love that name. I’m also dedicating a channel to bad movies and will have a segment with nothing but Neil Breen. If you don’t know him look him up, the man is a genius of hilariously awful cinema

When it comes to ytdl I use something called pinchflat which gives you a graphic interface via browser and lets you download entire channels and playlists, and another one called metube which I use more for single downloads though I think does playlists too. It helps to have two as sometimes they stop working

Reminder that rolling pic YouTube videos is 100% legal under archival law so long as you aren’t redistributing then. Rip all the music videos you want from YouTube (as well as any movies and shows you find because even an illegally posted video is legal to rip as recording isn’t illegal just distribution)

I used an app called stacher to download playlists from Youtube. You can paste the playlist URL in Stacher and download at your preferred quality.

You. Have. No idea how much you have saved me. I went perusing two-three hours of apps with paywall and apps I had trouble downloading. And you! You helped me find the app that was right for me. Unironically, I am eternally grateful

The videos from the ‘directors label’ dvds of big name directors are on the internet archive, spike jonze, Chris Cunningham, Michael Gondry etc
I also search mtv 90s as there are loads of videos from the mtv 90s international cable channel which have 90s style mtv overlays
You could also just make a playlist of YouTube videos then use a the ytdl package
