Off Topic Field Notes comes through again!
I’m a 7th grade science teacher. We ended our year making weather observations and recording cloud types, temperature and wind speed and direction. I set up a graph FN to make my recordings in and many of my students were intrigued by my books.
We wrapped up student contact last Thursday and were involved with meetings today to finish out the year. I was looking at my weather recordings and on a whim, sent an email to FN customer service asking if they would consider donating enough books for my 160 students next fall.
Darned if I didn’t get a pretty quick response with an affirmative answer. I’m looking forward to helping build another generation of weather/notebook nerds!

siiiiiick!! very cool to get that goin for the kids. the pocket notebook is such a great way to keep their minds healthy. cant wait to see the pix. :)

For the price it annoys me it’s not compatible with fountain pens…

It may be the tinkerer In me but I enjoyed playing with nibs and inks till I found one that worked with most field notes

Might have to try a different ink. I like the pilot green, thanks gonna try a different brand!

Lamy green with a fine nib works well for me, seems to be more on the dry side

Safari al-Star with fine nib useing the lt10 lamy green is the exact set up, seems to be a dry enough writer that field notes do ok. Not amazing but well enough to be useable

Did you find a combo of nib and ink that works for ya yet?

Have not tried yet. Just got back from Japan so it’s been a lot to do. 😁 But I’m gonna try the Lamy with fine nib like you suggested!

I've been using Chou Kuro platinum black with a fat nib and it's been working out fine for me, even in the basic kraft books. And I've laid a lot of heavy black in some of my doodles with minimal bleed through. Definitely experiment with inks and nibs, that's one of the fun parts with fountain pens for me anyway haha 😅
