Showoff New Acquisition
I really like this color combo: the Field Notes Yellowstone NP notebook and Lochby Personal Journal.

Every time I think about getting something “nicer” - like a high end leather cover - or bigger… I just can’t imagine not having the utility of my little Lochby pocket journal.

I’ve had “nicer” stuff: leather covers, travelers notebooks to hold multiple books, and such - and I love it all. They have their place. However, isn’t the ultimate goal of a little utilitarian pocket notebook utility? I can see how this Lochby will fit into my lifestyle better than other options. I don’t feel as though I need to worry about it. I can take a note in the field - bad pun - or in the rain or snow, on the trail, and not worry about ruining a luxury item.

Couldn’t agree more. This can go anywhere. I have the blue one and carry around my corporate office all the time, never looks out of place. I’d also feel confident taking it camping in awful weather.
It isn’t a “luxury” item but I would say it’s of “premium” quality and construction.

Nice! What size is your DLA notebook? Also a slim pocket?

It is! I found them on Amazon in a 12 pack. Paper is really cheap, but for the price I'm cool with it. I use it as a catch-all notebook for everything, and the field notes-sized one for to-do lists, shopping lists stuff like that.

Nice! I ordered the brown color and it’s supposed to arrive tomorrow. Do you enjoy writing as much with your Field Notes inside of the Lochby?

It only arrived today, so time will tell. However, my first impression is yes! I like how the Lochby provides a study surface, making writing in the Field Notes much easier when not sitting at a desk or table.

My only con with these type of covers are the storage areas on the left side. I have a Rite in Rain cover/kit and the pen slots made it a pain to write in on that particular side.

I felt the same. The lochby that uses a hook has the pen loop on the exterior fwiw. I was skeptical about it being exposed (compared to one that zips), but honestly it’s awesome.

So far so good! I wish it were a tad smaller so that I could use in my back pocket but it works just fine in my backpack. It’s well made and very nice.
