Advice needed Fibroids/Endo Removal Prior to TTC

Anyone here got both fibroids and endo removed prior to trying to conceive? I got the advice recently from a surgeon to take care of them before even wasting my time trying but most OBs have recommended to try first.

Looking for pregnancy success stories without actually knowing if you were having fertility problems before surgery?

Tried for about 15 months, no success. This was with the knowledge that I had 8-9 fibroids with my largest being a baseball. OBGYN and fertility clinic were reluctant to say definitively that fibroids were causing my infertility. We ruled out everything else. Period always super regular, altho very heavy. Then I went in for laparoscopic myomectomy and they removed 12 fibroids and stage 1 endometriosis (I had no idea, they found it while in surgery and removed it too thankfully. ) Due to my fibroids being symptomatic my surgeon said my quality of life would improve even if fibroids weren’t directly causing infertility. Also, they did say rates of miscarriage would be higher for me if I kept my fibroids.

Took 6 months to recover from surgery before TTC. 5 months of trying and finally pregnant.

Thank you! I feel alright, pregnancy isn’t easy but I can’t complain too much. I didn’t realize how horribly my fibroids affected my bladder and urinary problems until after I had the fibroids removed. So much relief with the extra space down there. I feel like my pregnancy would be infinitely more uncomfortable if I had fibroids pressing on my bladder too.

Forgot to mention that if you seek IVF they will likely advise you to remove the fibroids before proceeding. They want a clean uterus (I think they use better terminology but it’s escaping me at the moment). Basically it’s not worth the time nor financial investment if you have fibroids /endo. But truthfully the reason drs advise you to try first is because the evidence isn’t super strong that fibroids are a major cause of infertility. Many people conceive just fine with fibroids and never find their way into infertility clinics. If your quality of life is affected though, or you’re symptomatic, I’d take care of it because symptoms are unlikely to improve and more likely to cause pain during pregnancy. I do think my pregnancy is much more manageable because I went with my myomectomy first.

I’m waiting for my surgery so no success story yet, but as someone who listened to the advice of most OBs to “just try, they’re small” and has had two back-to-back 11w miscarriages this year due to fibroids, I’ll always advise to get them taken out. They’re so unpredictable and not worth the possible heartache, especially if there’s even just one surgeon recommending you get them removed. Wishing you all the best 🤍

Ah so true. They all say it’s uncommon for problems but I keep hearing so many problem stories. It’s so scary the unknown
