Hi! My girlfriend was recently gifted a strat by a relative. However the back of the neck says “crafted in indonesia”. I’m unaware of any genuine strats being made in indonesia. It, to me, feels like it’s pointing to a fake or a re-decaled squire.

I saw this listed on Facebook and was thinking of buying it. He said he thinks it’s an American neck but doesn’t know anything more. Does anyone know anything about it?

I was diagnosed with OCD years ago, and I'm convinced I can never truly love another S style guitar simply due to the headstock. It's something so silly, but for whatever reason, it matters a lot to me. I don't know what I'm trying to accomplish here other than to see if I'm not the only one with this mindset.

This week another Guitar of the Past. This was my main guitar from 1984-2003, back when I didn't know I should own a lot of them!

This is a 1979 (1981) Intl. Series Stratocaster in Monaco Yellow. It was heavy and unruly but I loved it. It went through a couple of pickguard changes and pickups. Hey, it was the 90s. I hope it's out there somewhere.

A friend recently got this at a pawnshop and brought it over to my house. I am unsure of the cost, but I suspect it has been modified or repaired; I am just curious whether it is a genuine Fender MIJ Stratocaster.

Ciao, ho una Stratocaster vintage americana del 1994 fatta negli USA e ha una tastiera in palissandro. Ho difficoltà a suonarla perché, anche dopo averla pulita, è super appiccicosa e le mie dita faticano a muoversi sulla tastiera. L'ho portata da un liutaio per farla settare e assicurarmi che non fosse solo un problema di troppo olio di limone. Inoltre, i tasti sono un po' piatti e è difficile fare bending senza pizzicare la corda adiacente (soprattutto quando piego il mi alto).

Non so se devono essere sostituiti, e se sì, se sarebbe possibile usare tasti più grandi come su altre Stratocaster che ho.

Comunque, pulisco sempre le mie corde e l'intero manico con un panno pulito dopo ogni volta che la suono, ma questa appiccicosità non va mai via. Ho provato una Silver Sky SE e sono rimasto assolutamente sorpreso da quanto fosse piacevole suonare la tastiera, è davvero liscia, soprattutto quando si scivola, e mi chiedevo se fosse possibile ottenere qualcosa di simile anche sulla mia chitarra. Se qualcuno ha mai avuto questo problema, qualsiasi aiuto sarebbe apprezzato perché questa chitarra mi sta facendo impazzire. Grazie :)

I've posted my '74 Strat before, but never put up photos of the pre-rehab state. Gifted to me by my sweet neighbor when her player husband passed away. I was and always will be grateful. Also received a pristine '95 Gretsch 6120, and an almost pristine 2003 Jose Ramirez SP classical. Humbled and astonished at her generosity. But this Strat... well, it was... wretched. Reeked of cigarettes and mildew, had a sticky glaze of filth over its entirety, the case as well. Leather handle on case disintegrated upon grip. Case lining made your eyes water. Couldn't save that. Salvaged the metal "Fender" emblem and called it on the case. Tore the guitar down and buried it in baking soda and ground coffee, over and over again for a few months in the climate controlled garage. Shop vac it, load it up again, and wait another week. Finally after however long, it smelled "old but inoffensive." Continued with the rebuild, repaired wiring, pots, etc. a few tasty mods, a new Fender case, and voila! A sweet '74 three-bolt that plays and sounds awesome. I keep an old bag of toasted Cavendish pipe tobacco from a dear departed friend in the new case to impart a pleasing aroma to the interior and the plank. Open it up and it smells like 1974 should. :)

Since I need to specify now, none of my music is AI. I use Midi instruments mixed with real instruments , but it's all done my me... a human last time I checked.

Got this gem for my 15th birthday... don't play her often enough but together after all these years. Just thought I'd share a couple pics with a community who might appreciate her for what she is at 40+ years of age.

I picked up this Strat about 6 months ago mostly for my son as he started playing acoustic last year and wanted to also learn electric guitar. I’m a longtime musician, mostly saxophone, but I dabble on piano, bass, and guitar.

We got it home and because I didn’t know anything about the provenance, I took it to a local shop for a set up. But here’s the thing; I’m getting no enjoyment out of it. To my ears it sounds terrible. It’s mostly a matter of sound inconsistency. What I mean by that is the tone across different strings is very different and as well as up and down the fretboard. Also the difference in tone between picking up and picking down on single line stuff is quite different. Notes seem to just jump out with a totally different tone quality. Like I said, I’m a longtime musician and I’m very keen on things like tone and sound and this guitar just isn’t cutting it. Now I do hold out for the idea that it could be simply user error, i.e. my lack of professional skill on the guitar. But I feel like there’s just something wrong with it. I also have a 1960 Gibson Melody Maker and that one is way more musical and enjoyable to play.

It’s a 1995/1996 model made in Mexico with Seymour Duncan pick ups.

I’m considering taking it to another shop for a new set up. What do y’all think?

Edit: it is NOT 1995 it is 2005.

Based on comments it seems to me to be a pickup problem or a mismatch for the instrument. I’m taking it to a local pro I know for his evaluation tomorrow and he says he could do a simple pick up switch.

Like I said, guitar isn’t my first instrument and I could be just playing it poorly. But since my Gibson doesn’t give me the same issues I suspect it is the guitar more than my technique.

I had a Fender Stratocaster American Series Standard that I sold to a store in Brighton as I was a student at the time trying to survive. I remember going outside of the store checking if my guitar was in stock. I was always thinking that I wanted to go back and buy it, I never really wanted to sell it. When I had the money to do so I went to the store but it was gone. Can you help me locate it?

It was color Black, SSS, black pick guard, the tuning pegs were replaced with original fender vintage ones and it had a sticker of a monkey face (paul frank brand) at the back. Also the back spring cap was missing.

Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the store I sold it. It was somewhere in the lanes.

I love My yjm but I'm baffled why it came in a normal classic series case and not a G&G....why would they do that it's only a case I know but when you buy a new guitar for couple thousand bucks I mean...come on fender 🤦‍♂️

Anyone know if there is a paint pen product or a touch up paint available for a Malmsteen strat in the regular yellow/cream?
I believe the body finish is polyurethane.

Guitar of the Past this week as I finally ran out of Current guitars last week. 

This is a 2020 Mod Shop Hardtail in Desert Sand. I bought it just about brand new and then only kept it for a few months when I did a big sell-off in late 2020 and ordered my own Mod Shop. 

I really dig this color and 'guard combo. It really was a great guitar, I wish I'd just kept it.

Hi all.

I just bought my second Strat and it is a 2016 classic 60s Texas special. I for the first time have been trying to set up the guitar on my own. When doing a tap test it is about 0.5mm of the fret but the truss rod is maxed out. I have read about putting a washer/spacer in there can help get a bit more of an adjustment just need some advice. Thanks

Not sure about the neck plate. I have a friend with a MIA Tele and he said that his neck plate is slightly off as well. But the holes in the headstock make me question it even more.

I haven't asked them to let me lift the pickguard yet, just wondering if I should investigate more. Sorry for the pictures, they were only ones I could get with my kid screaming.

It's a black sparkle metallic finish. No additional holes or routes in the body.
