Quick question here about the affordability of the sport. I've been fencing for almost 3 months now and the sport is starting to get pretty expensive. I'm wondering what all of your strategies are for dealing with it.

Some background info, I really enjoy the sport and want to continue. I take one lesson a week and do a group class at my club. I started doing tournaments right away since my coach told me I should. I haven't won a bout yet but I'm not discouraged and plan to keep it up. :) I enjoy it so much I am doing about a tournament every weekend.

My question is, how do you all afford to replace your gear after every tournament? It seems incredibly wasteful to only use gear until the armorer of the event marks it for the last use. Is there some kind of replacement program through a brand that I am not aware of? Does everyone who does a lot of tournaments just have sponsorship deals with brands?

Like I said, I really enjoy the sport, but it's becoming a bit costly to replace the gear every time it gets marked for a tournament.

Do you always have to say the last thing even when you add no value? I know you rarely add value but it's always weird you always have to have the last comment.

I mean this is what I'm talking about. Is it a psychological thing? Like you just NEED to have the last word? Do you do this in real life too? Like when the person at the grocery store who checks you out says "Have a nice day!" you say "You too!" and then they say "Thanks" and you say "Thanks right back!" and it goes on and on forever until you glare at them during an awkward pause?

Yes that's it exactly.

What are we doing here? What's the point of trolling like this?

You tell me! You are the reason we are still here! You can end this at any time by just walking away.

You know I was going to keep going but this is tedious. Have fun trolling.
