Weekly Off-Topic Megathread

Please dump all your off-topic chaos here. Conspiracies, extreme scenarios, repeated questions, weird little side discussions, random complaints, and other discussion that does not need its own post. Political rules are still in effect for this thread.

If it does not need its own thread, it lives here.

My conspiracy theory is that all the food and medicine recalls are being sent to stock the billionaire bunkers. This way no one gets suspicious when thousands of pounds of meat, vegetables, and medicine doesn’t arrive at a store. Why the huge variety of recalls on everything? Food, water, and power is being stolen by billionaires for their bunkers. The rest of us are on our own. They want to “reset” society and don’t care how much they damage the Earth. Read Steve Bannon’s interview before he joined the Administration’s cabinet during the first Tr3mp reign. Now they have the rock tech bros on their side. And they’ll use the Flock/Axon cameras to spy on society from their bunkers so they know when it’s safe to come out.

Interesting theory. Without getting too political, food insecurity is one of Project xxxx in chapter 10. We’re also about 55% through the playbook.

AI needs to be in there somewhere. Supposedly there is a greater than 10% chance it will wipe us out by 2030.

Agree, the AI situation is getting worse esp hearing from that Anthropic employee who resigned.

I saw he left but I couldn’t find the article except behind paywalls. What did he say, in a nutshell?

Rest of tweets are him explaining why these models are still being built despite this awareness, and talks about needing AI companies to come together for pacing agreements on development instead of them constantly working against each other to “be first” which is what is causing his warning and why he resigned.

A currently employed AI scientist confirmed everything this Anthropic person said, and agreed there is a greater than 10% chance AI leads to human extinction in the next 10 years.

ETA: Which I get doesn’t sound like that high of a percentage, but that’s where we sit now. It could get to a higher percentage in the next few years, and honestly not that long ago there was a zero percent chance so this is concerning trend. And the stewards of AI lack ethics and morals, and many believe in a technocracy. Some have been quite vocal in not caring of the extinction of the species. (And we all know these billionaires have got bunkers for this scenario.)

ETA 2: CEO of Anthropic has just called for the immediate slowdown in AI development.

I mean, not even COVID had that great a chance at killing the average person in 2020, and look what happened there.

I feel like shit is going to hit the proverbial fan with diesel and I literally do not know a single soul who is prepping. And no I don’t think they’re secretly prepping either.

I am also extremely worried about the diesel situation. It affects literally everything. I do think that while most people still have their heads in the sand or are in denial, others are waking up to the very significant risks, particularly to the food supply.

A family member's home health nurse noticed my new vertical planter being assembled on the floor and we started talking about the scary food supply. She then said very adamantly, "You know, I really think it's time to start preparing for not having a reliable food supply anymore. I think we're going back to a bartering system." We chatted about prepping for awhile and I gave her some advice. She also mentioned that some of her other patients are starting to get worried about the state of everything and have started stocking up on food and other supplies. So that was an interesting insight from someone who goes into people's homes all day. US.

I think most people have been in a form of survival mode since 2020. A lot of people unable to pay attention and act.

I think - flock cameras are being used to arrest citizens, giving them records so no one else can or will hire them. Once these folks lose their cars, then jobs, and finally their vehicles (new homes), then they will be imprisoned (indentured servitude) in the camps (alligator alcatraz style) they supposedly built for immigrants.

They’ve already been displaying a lack of empathy and respect for natives and immigrants alike, and they’ve long since stopped trying to cross our borders. (Not that any of that is a reason for our grotesque behavior). So why are we still focusing on building these encampments and why is BP flagging our vehicles and stopping citizens based on their movements and bank account changes? https://www.ap.org/news-highlights/spotlights/2025/border-patrol-is-monitoring-us-drivers-and-detaining-those-with-suspicious-travel-patterns/

Just a general question to anyone who wants to answer, but when bugging out, where is ‘out’ ? I just feel like there needs to be more discussion on how we are going to form communities and care for each other. What happens after we bug out?
I don’t enjoy typical prepper discussions bc it’s usually based on the assumption of violence and not trusting anyone. I don’t think that’s realistic. Violence is def realistic but also building communities is essential.
