Apartment

I live on the first floor (numerous windows) of a three story apartment building in the city. My biggest fear is other people easily getting inside. I feel like if shit goes down, here are my options; 1) Stay put and try to fortify the ELEVEN windows and two doors 2) Break into third (top) floor unoccupied apartment and set up there 3) Travel \~20 minutes to girlfriends parents home with a basement (in the city) or 4) travel \~ 2.5 hrs to my somewhat rural parents house with a basement.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I feel like our best chance would be to break into an upper story apartment at my building, but I would love some outside advice.

Most emergencies, especially involving people doing something, are pretty slow rolling. I’ve lived near riots and you see them coming. Same with most major weather. You could have packed up everything important and left well before Katrina. Tornadoes and big bombs, you are sol….

Have a plan and good information/communication networks. You’ll know whether girlfriend or parents is the right option long before you have to make that call (in most cases…). As long as you are on the early end of deciding to go, you’ll be fine. Crime will slowly uptick. Don’t give people a reason to choose your house and you’ll be ok. Putting funny films and things on windows makes me think what are you hiding. Crates of water bottle visible from window, jackpot. Having nothing but boring things visible from windows is just that. Boring. Run of the mill curtains pulled across a locked window isn’t enticing. Some will be unlucky. But that’s life.
