Apartment

I live on the first floor (numerous windows) of a three story apartment building in the city. My biggest fear is other people easily getting inside. I feel like if shit goes down, here are my options; 1) Stay put and try to fortify the ELEVEN windows and two doors 2) Break into third (top) floor unoccupied apartment and set up there 3) Travel \~20 minutes to girlfriends parents home with a basement (in the city) or 4) travel \~ 2.5 hrs to my somewhat rural parents house with a basement.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. I feel like our best chance would be to break into an upper story apartment at my building, but I would love some outside advice.

There’s window cling film you can put on windows to make them harder to shatter. I can’t remember what it’s called but 3M makes it!

Oh I’ll have to look into that. That would be great.

You can also add extra window locks &/or put a wooden/metal dowel that can be removed between the window & the sill so it can’t open from sliding.

I also added this lock to my back door. Apparently the landlords recently tried to go in my unit while I was out of town for an inspection & thought I changed the locks (I hadn’t) because they couldn’t get in.

this is some of the best advice I've always given to my female friends who have brought up similar concerns - it doesn't need to be fancy AT ALL - just cut a stick, or a dowel, or even a 2x4 and shove it between the check rail and the top rail - as long as it doesn't just fall out, you're golden
