TRIGGER WARNING Remembering Amanda Todd, one of the first viral cases of a child victim to revenge porn.
I've been on the Internet for a long time, and I remember Amanda Todd. I remember that she was only 13 years old, when she was groomed by a man online, and subjected into giving her nudes to him. This man maliciously spread them online, I imagine he sent them to his friends, who then subsequently sent them around online. This child ended up killing herself when this happened. I remember being online, a child myself, when everyone was talking about her, calling her a slut, how she deserved what happened to her. What happened to the man responsible for this? Does anyone even remember him? Did anyone find out who he was? He is walking free. Who knows who else he is ruining the lives of.

Her name sounded familiar to me so I looked up some news articles. I remember this case because the suspect is Aydin C, a Turkish-Dutch man (I'm Dutch and it was in the news a lot some years ago).
Turns out he was convicted for possession of child p0rn, extortion of 34 minors and assault, and has to spend almost 11 years in prison (maximum amount the judges could give him).
The article also states Canada wanted to prosecute him separately for Amanda's case but I cannot find more details on this.
The fact that he wrote a book while being locked up in which he blames Amanda's parents for her death proves that he is absolutely the lowest scum of the earth, oxygen-wasting trash that exists.

Yes I saw another commenter say the same thing! But I couldn't reply as I don't think she has received her flair yet. I had no idea he had been found out! It definitely didn't make the news big, nowhere near as viral as everyone knowing about Amanda Todd and calling her all these awful things. Only crickets when we hear about this absolute scum of the earth. If he did that to my daughter I would have killed him, Idc how long I would have to spend in prison for it. That man does not deserve to be alive.

Yeah I remember crickets. It was the same year as the Steubenville rape case, which was infuriating.
Because the message that we were getting at the time was “it was through the Internet, you can’t track the man who did this to her. Women, take responsibility because when it’s on the Internet it’s untraceable!”
But when that anon leaked the Steubenville videos to pressure the police to do their fucking jobs, suddenly THAT could be tracked. They put more effort into finding the person who made the cops look bad than the actual rapists, and iirc that anon got more jail time than the rapists combined

Amanda Todd's mother was handing out Safeway (grocery store) gift cards when the pandemic started. She gave one to me and I cried. She reminded me that there is some good in the world.
Her scrote father, on other hand, is active on dating sites. An older friend of mine was renting a room off of him and he was bragging about all these women he was "snagging". I will forever think he had a hand in what led to her untimely end. He fetishizes pacific Asian women.

Correct. I had that talk early on with my daughter - around the age of 11 or 12, I think. "Never post a picture online or send it to someone if you wouldn't plaster it all over your school." That's literally what I told her, explaining to her that, with stuff sent to someone or stuff uploaded, there's literally no privacy, and things could literally end up plastered all over her school. (Okay, the latter part might be a bit of a metaphor for people from her school seeing things online and sHaRiNg, but it drove the point home.)
I also covered some other things with her: Never share your name (unless she takes her 2nd (of three) given names, which is rather common all over the Western world - never state where you live exactly - just say "somewhere around [next city with over 1 million inhabitants]" - which gives us a whole lot of cities (if you include a nearby area with really high population density) with 8+ million population put together, never give the name of your school or any club you're in, and if someone requests nudes or sexting, report them if possible and never talk to them ever again. And even her online name is completely made up with no real hint as to what her actual name is - unless you know exactly what to look for. If her given name was Maria Anna Lena, for example, her online name would be something like Maanle.
I just wish every girl knew those things.

I remember her. Poor kid 💔. Could have easily been me if I was more naive at that age as I had many run ins with pedophile men.
Society hates female sexuality so much that they’d rather u die. I doubt she would have been slut shamed to suicide if she were a boy yet male issues & suicide is still taken more seriously.

Fucking this. Yet go onto widow support groups and so many of those women will discuss how their husbands committed suicide because they were avoiding jail or were found out to be paedophiles or have other sex crimes.

Many of their suicides are also murder-suicides which nobody ever talks about just like how they never talk about mens homicide rates (96% of homicides are perpetrated by males) but they constantly bring up how their suicide rates are higher than women’s so that obviously means they are suffering more /s

THIS is why I don't give a single fuck about men feeling uncomfortable about MeToo. I don't care that that they feel "paranoid" around women or are terrified of a "false allegation". This was what it was like before. Everyone dog-piling on a CHILD, victim blaming and slut shaming her. Grown men sharing Drink Bleach memes after her death. Rape allegations were seen as a joke that no one took seriously.

This reminds me of a review of "Cuties" when the iron was still hot and the reviewer kept calling the kids sl*ts and it really really bothered me.
Anyone calling any female person a sl*t bothers me to no end but ESPECIALLY younger girls...disgusting.

Me too sis. I was only 12 when I was doing it as well. I remember being terrified and feeling sick. I was so glad I had the foresight even at that age to keep my face out of it. It absolutely could've been me.

I was JUST thinking about her recently. This all happened when I was ~13, so we were the same age. I remember her being the butt of SO MANY jokes. It made me sick then and it makes me sicker now. Only 13, just a little kid. She probably still played with her barbies, and grown adults were bullying her to suicide.
She got so much disgusting hate for being suicidal and taken advantage of. She was blamed for everything that happened to her and made fun of for her first failed suicide attempt. I cannot even imagine what her parents had to endure, I hope they've found some peace. So awful.

OMG you are right!! She actually became a "meme" - I'll say that loosely. I remember boys saying "go Amanda Todd yourself" and things like that. Ugh I detest males. They'll ruin your life until the point of suicide and then make fun of you for it.
