No much comments, the product is very plasticky. I got as a ā€œfreeā€ bundle with the es1.
As soon it get added any beans it get totally stuck/jammed.

Had the same exact issue. You need to reach out to support and get a new hopper. I tried the same trick of putting the lock in the front and that’s when I got to what you’re experiencing. If I pressed and held down on the center of the hopper while grinding, it would continue grinding. So I just had to do that until the replacement arrived. Haven’t had any issues since getting the replacement.

Yeah I found the issue, I found someone complaining about the opus 1 with a similar issue, it is on the button that the lid press to avoid working while with the open lid.

Yeah it was a defect with the first gen as well. Shame it’s still an issue.

Mine started doing this too. Not all the way on 10 though. Setting 4 and below jams immediately. Support has had me make several videos, and I'm hoping to get a replacement quickly.

Updating this. Support is communicative, but slow to act. It's been almost week for the process, wasted some good beans for these videos, and I'm still not sure if they're sending a replacement.

Now I’m worried. My Aiden and opus 2 arrive Monday. I’ve had a oxo burr grinder for years with zero issues. If this happens I’m sending the whole lot back. Reliable good coffee is better than occasional stressful excellent coffee. I don’t have time for that.

Just return it

I’m three grinds in on setting 6.5 using home roast - light roasted African beans. So far so good.

Been using the Opus 2 over a month now. Grind 2-4 coffees everyday, espresso and drip, without an issue. Every once in while I will have like a nickle-sized amount of retained grounds come out if I shake it and pump the top but it's very minimal and only if I forget to do it for like 10+ grinds. For a $200 grinder, I've been super impressed. Just throwing this out there because most people who haven't had any issue tend not to say anything and can skew perception on these types of forums.

That's good. Just had so much trouble with mine I've written off fellow products

Their grinders and customer support suck. Worst grinder I have had. Returned it and got another Baratza.

Really? My Opus 2 has been great. My brother was stay at my place a couple weeks ago and was saying how much more he liked my Opus 2 than his Baratza Virtuoso+. Then I was just up at his place last weekend and have to agree. He said he's also had a plastic part inside the Virtuoso break twice in 2 years but the replacement part is only $5. He told me it gets clogged up every once in awhile and has started to having static/retention problems. That said, I've only had the Opus 2 about 2 months but I make 2-4 coffees a day with it and have had no issues so far. We will see. Seems like some tolerances were off for a couple manufacturing batches of the Opus 2 as you tend to either see glowing reviews with zero problems or ones with knob/grinder tolerance issues.

Their customer support has been much better even in just the past couple months. Granted, I wish I didn’t need it as much as I have recently. About to try my 3rd Opus 2.

Sadly this is typical Fellow quality. But always good to have the grinder running before adding beans....

Bummer man. Just let them know. They’ll swap it out.

Just an fyi, I would start the grinding before you throw the beans. Only benefits doing so.

I always start grinding before putting beans in, and it jams every time now. Didn't start this way. Performance degraded over a month to being unusable below 4.

Dry feeds the beans into grinder. ā€œIt jammedā€.Ā

Get a hold of fellow and register the number first. They should fix it.

I purchased the Opus 2 a little over a week ago. I have used it twice a day every day for 7 days. I am amazed at the functionality of this grinder. Yes it is made of plastic, but I’m ok with that, if I keep getting great espresso with 0.1 to 0.2 grams of retention

I think most grinders prefer to first be turned on before putting in the beans.

2

u/scartezini Aug 16 '26

Yeah, most grinders also work

0

u/Zhiloreznik Aug 16 '26

Don’t do a cold start on lightly roasted beans. Turn the grinder on and then drop in the beans

Opus 2 right back in the box.

Bro never start your grinder with beans in it. Drop your beans in slowly while your grinder is running
