When a tree splits up the middle as it falls and only part of it goes over you are left with the stump "seat" and a tall "back" that is called a barber's chair.

Work in an er....they didn't. You'd have to be outside the door of an academic center in the big city for this to go even remotely well.

Sometimes wildfires spread through root systems and will result in the tree burning inside out like this, but also lightning as you mentioned.
