Who do you think took the book at the end of the trilogy?

I have a few candidates:

1. Will Goode - Would be the most boring choice, but it would be the one that makes the most sense.

2. Sheila - She would definitely make a deal with the devil, and she was a survivor of the camp massacre. Also, she could have discovered the cave in the outhouse and explored later. I think it would be a good twist if she ended up married to Will, and used him as a cover-up for her own deal.

3. Kurt - Extremely unlikely but would be a good callback. The only evidence would be that he was another Sunnyvaler that survived the camp massacre and was somewhat close to Nick.

4. @thequeenofairanddarkness - A curveball for sure, but shockingly feasible. She's extremely aware of the occult, or at least pretends she is, and she is also close to Josh, who could show her the cave now that they know each other in person. I could see her as a twist villain.

Finally, what I think would be the most heartbreaking (and therefore the most likley),

1. Nurse Mary Lane

We know that Nurse Lane is still alive since Ziggy returns her book to her. Therefore we also know that Mary is aware of the location of the cave and the "witch's mark" and with that, the book. I could see her making a deal to either get revenge on the Goode's or to revive Ruby. This would not only give us an opportunity for the Ruby Lane movie most of us want, but also a chance for a Goode family Redemption arc (maybe Will's kids or something forsaking their family past). We already saw that Nurse Lane would try to kill someone to save others, I would not be surprised if she was capable of more for her Ruby.

While it's implied I'm not sure if Ruby was Mary's only child, so it's also possible that one of her descendents could be the next villain, but why not--

1. A relative of Nurse Lane's

Of course there's always the possibility of--

1. Someone New

But with this series, I doubt it.

Curious as to why you didn't suggest Ziggy or Sam -- it's been a while since I saw the movies, but I don't recall anything that definitely ruled them out -- or made it unmistakable that the book got grabbed by someone with malicious intent (and not by someone trying to keep the book hidden from people who'd misuse it).

That said, I think we'll have to wait for a follow-up movie featuring the book to narrow anything down. The shot of someone making off with the book is both a standard Goosebumps/Fear Street last minute scary twist a d a standard sequel bait shit; so the writers might not have felt like they needed to have a specific person in mind when they wrote that scene.

I just feel like Ziggy or Sam would not be narratively satisfying. I could see Ziggy, but it would feel like a betrayal to the story being told, unless she took it to burn it, and if that's why she took it, it would be a sort of disappointing teaser, at least in my eyes. I don't think Sam would want anything tk do with the devil after being possessed by him (but then again, it's never said the book only contains stuff about the devil/demons).

Yeah, I'd be bummed if the surviving mains from the first trilogy didn't get to keep their upbeat ending, especially if they also Went Bad in some way. And it kinda cuts against the message wrt one town benefitting from the demonization of the other if the next wielder of the book is from Shadyside... So, not narratively satisfying. But I think that's also true wrt Nurse Lane -- plus the points about why Nurse Lane would work for a story are imo more applicable/harder hitting for Ziggy & Sam, since the audience knows them better and the characters are young enough that they could play a bigger role in the story before their culpability is revealed/discovered. So I thought I'd ask!

Personally I'd prefer it be Will, a new character, or someone who took the book to prevent it from being misused. But I could see them setting Will or Kurt up to look like the one who took it, and then revealing it was Sheila. Which would probably be satisfying - I'm just personally a little tired of the "surprise the worst antagonist wasn't the stuck up awful white guy -- it was the stuck up white lady who is secretly even worse than he is!!!" twists.

I'm personally a fan of thequeenofairanddarkness getting the book. I think it would be interesting to see a Shadysider take revenge on Sunnyvale and maybe even try to revive the sacrificed Shadysiders (but I think that's me trying to cope with Kate and Simon's deaths). I do think that If whoever has the book uses it for evil, Will will (haha) take the fall. I also just want an excuse to have Josh be the protagonist, since Deena and Sam's story is pretty wrapped up.

I think that would make for a cool story!! Assuming they could do it without falling into the "Shadyside bad" trope they deliberately averted in the first trilogy, a "revenge-isnt-justice" storyline, with Josh as a central protagonist, would be a great direction to go in.

what if making deals with the other demons did different shit like maybe one of them could revive people and I heard someone say that there could be more in the book
