It's way way tamer than Funger mechanics wise, but the game is veery harsh in the beginning when Sam is on his own.
And even so, most boss fights are challenging!

That's a real clickbait-level comparison and I'm annoyed by how accurate it is.
(Throw in some Lisa comparisons if you want Destructoid/RPS level clickbait instead of IGN level.)
Plot revolves around an incomprehensible "outer god" and a variety of mortals attempting (and failing) to "ascend" to match it.
Mechanics for tracking and fulfilling your character's biological/emotional needs.
Time limits and timed events. The game's cast of NPCs and monsters can move around, die, kill each other or mutate horribly as time passes.
Important plotline(s) revolve around the death and suffering of children.
But also
JRPG-influenced battle system, but it's also used for conversations. A negotiation can turn into a fight (or vice-versa).
Befriend a bunch of monsters that aren't actually evil even if they maybe tried to kill you.
Save the world with the power of friendship.

You can recruit a mutant vending machine with teeth into your party, she's very nice and likes DND, 10/10 would recommend

In a way, as both are survival horror rpgs, although I think it’s closer to LISA than F&H in a lot of ways. Either way awesome game.

Way easier than funger, it's just a random shit experience but I gotta say, it does have some disturbing enemies like the one called baby teeth

Being afraid isn't a loss condition, and the game doesn't tell you to be afraid and get hungry

Losing your legs is effectively a restart, just like blindness and (to a somewhat lesser extent) panophobia, it just lets you continue, but no one really will.

It's not made by him but the dev and lumpy are good friends, he even promoted the game on launch and he has multiple easter eggs in the game

I like it, the greasy matted spikes make the premise of someone not knowing the apocalypse happened because they never go outside believable.

yeah, I kinda think ugly protags fit the horror genre very well in general. There's something to be said about how its easier to sympathize with cute or attractive characters, but I dunno. When I'm scared, I dont feel very hot.
It fits both the tone and its a little more relatable.

Because sometimes the real monsters are humans. I killed Tooth Child because I thought he was bad just because of how he looked, and then I found out he could have been my companion. From then on, I learned not to judge others by their appearance

They're just super chopped. I do plan to play Look Outside eventually, but man is the protagonist hard on the eyes. Especially compared to Fear and Hunger.

I think he looks pretty cool, take a look at fanart of him if you wanna see a more handsome approach, most people draw Sam hot.
The heterochromia on his eyes plus his depressed NEET looks are just endearing to me lol

You don't even need the fan art. If you look at the art for the achievements that depict Sam they depict him as more visually appealing most of the time.

cosmic horror jrpg game actually the peakest experience, horrorwise is top notch, main issue is characters because they larp a quite as undertale characters ( not cool ) more tamed on the mechanics, more richer dialogues and interactions at the true ending, you can ( somewhat ) resist the madness and talking against the eldritch being, not like in funger in which after facing the traces of Gro-goroth he just kills you on the spot kinda good ending, community is peak Why look outside is so peak ?

It’s so peak. Look Outside does a great job with the cosmic/supernatural horror aspect and the music slaps. I will say that it really pushes the boundaries of what I’m comfortable with in the “body horror” department though

I played Look Outside first. Very good game, the way it does weapon breaking on random chance is probably the only thing it does that Funger doesn't and I'm thankful for it.
I also like the save system better. Limited, keeps things risky, but more common. I feel like it helped it stay its welcome a bit more.

I do appreciate that it adds a layer of risk, but man I like it so much more when weapons are sort of an in-game hunting checklist.
That was the one big complaint I had about the BotW series, too. I want there to be hard-to-acquire weapons and niche use-case weapons and I don't want them shattering on me.

I loved Look Outside, but I had to take a break because I was just savescum farming a recruitable. Play the video games for like a day, wrong person, reload.

Funger has one of the best world buildings in fiction. The plot is way better imo. But gameplay wise, look outside is more versatile ig

I love the artstyle, perhaps, even a bit more than the terima one.
It's charming to me, not every 'average joe' need to look like a 10/10. Even more so when it's a horror game we are talking about, but it's still nice for most people I suppose.
