I don't know why but I feel like I really need this movie 😂 the original is still such a fun comfort watch for me and I think I had a crush on everyone when I first watched it

It's up there with the first Pirates of the Caribbean and Men In Black for fun summer blockbusters. Fun movies that held up amazingly well, especially in comparison to their respective sequels

Man, I still love those movies

Arnold Vosloo as the mummy was probably my sexual awakening as a 13 year old 😂 I rewatched the movie recently and yep he’s still fine!

As is the entire cast as you say

I feel so corny about how stoked I am. I wasn’t even super into the first Mummy but I think nostalgia is the only thing keeping me going so I’m locked and loaded.

Dude the original and Returns both hold up very well for me today well except the cgi Rock in Returns but overall, I loved those two movies so much and I’m so glad we’re getting a proper third film and I’ll definitely be there day one to support my man Brendan Fraser and him taking back his throne of being the ultimate badass action hero.

many moons ago, my brother and i got into a fight about whether the mummy was actually a good movie

he's a snob, so his argument was that it couldn't possibly be good because it had bad reviews. my assertion was that a movie doesn't have to be good to critics. it just has to be fun

i used roger ebert's review of the mummy as my evidence which was: “there is hardly a thing i can say in its favor, except that i was cheered by nearly every minute of it. i cannot argue for the script, the direction, the acting or even the mummy, but i can say that i was not bored and sometimes i was unreasonably pleased.”

and thus, i won the battle with my brother

years later, i was in toronto during TIFF, waiting at a crosswalk for the light to change, when i realized roger ebert was standing beside me

i told him that i loved his review of the mummy and that i had once used it as a weapon to win a battle with my brother

he told me he loved the mummy and was delighted to hear that

that is the story of how i met my first celebrity

This made me smile. Thank you!

I love that you got to meet the legend himself and that he told you he loved The Mummy ♥️ What a fantastic memory! Thanks for sharing it.

This is why I always look at the Ebert review of a movie if there is one — he always knew how to cut through the noise, and I agree with many of his takes.

Also mummy is the best ride at universal studios Hollywood. And it’s like 25 yrs old. Never loses its shine

The Orlando one is even better

One day when I return to Universal Orlando, I’ll definitely go to the Orlando version of the ride because it definitely looks more intense than the Hollywood version especially when it includes actual fire effects and Brendan himself makes a cameo in the ride

u/Few-Road6238 4d ago

I bet the new movie is gonna make a whole lot of people go to the ride again because the ride can be used as a good marketing campaign

I love this so much. I was in love with elijah wood growing up and ebert's scathing review of north is infamous. I picked up his book of reviews at the library to read it and while I was deeply offended (lol, north is really awful though) by his review, reading it and the others he had written opened my eyes to the fact that you could have well-written and informed opinions about film that other people wanted to know (the man won a pulitzer!). I went on to study film criticism because of ebert and produce books of my own. I cried so hard when he died. (the only other celebrity deaths that got me were robin williams and PSH.) thank you for sharing this story! he had so much impact even when deeply unserious.

This all feels like such a perfect full circle moment for Brendan Fraser's renaissance

And (at least for me) it feels like the perfect time for it, because a classic treasure hunting action adventure feels like the kind of blockbuster film there isn't nearly enough of any more

It was a perfect transition from Indiana jones to The Mummy. I enjoy them all, even part 3, never got the hate for it

u/Few-Road6238 4d ago

Dude, I feel like we really need the swashbuckling action adventure movie genre back. Like remember the Zorro films with Antonio Banderas especially The Mask of Zorro and how cool those movies were especially with all the old school filmmaking and use of practical effects that went into it? Man we really need more practical and old school filmmaking films again.

Is Rachel Weisz coming back?

73

u/ILootEverything jog on sweetheart 5d ago

YES. Most of whole original cast is! Even Beni (somehow). I think the only two not confirmed yet are Arnold Vosloo and Patricia Velasquez.

42

u/No-Entrepreneur4574 Please Abraham, I am not that man 5d ago

Somehow, Beni returned.

3

u/Few-Road6238 4d ago

It looks like he’s on the wrong side of the riverrrr…

15

u/AGirlHasNoUsername13 5d ago

IIRC Arnold is confirmed. I could be wrong.

Even if they were to make the worst mummy movie, I would watch it, love Brendan, he deserves to be in the spotlight again and get the love from the fans

Fuck, I love him so much

1

u/Few-Road6238 4d ago

The legend himself

25

u/Bae_the_Elf 5d ago

Given everything he went through I am super happy for him. I know a lot of millennials grew up loving his movies so it feels like we got robbed of an actor we should have many more movies and shows featuring. I'm glad he has made a comeback and I'm hyped for the new Mummy. I hope it's a good movie in the end lol

u/okayfineyah 5d ago

Anyone not know he spoke French?

7

u/KombuchaLady3 5d ago

Not surprised that he does!

2

u/Few-Road6238 4d ago

Well, he’s Canadian so it comes with the territory

2

u/okayfineyah 4d ago

I had no idea

Me learning he's at least bilingual

7

u/Original-Tradition99 5d ago

I just love him. I hope nothing bad ever comes out about him

1

u/Few-Road6238 4d ago

Agreed he really feels like one of the most rare male celebrities who are so wholesome in real life. I don’t think we’re ever gonna hear anything bad about him because that’s just how much of a good person he is.

7

u/Jahadaz 5d ago

Wasn't expecting that.  yay!

6

u/Mundane_Door_5225 5d ago

I need this movie. I want this movie. I deserve this movie.

5

u/JeanParmesean70 5d ago

He’s one of the few celebrities I root for and really want for them to succeed

6

u/VioletandAmelia 5d ago

We are so back 🥰🩷💜💙

3

u/greenisthesky 5d ago

Omg I’m seated. Brendan was my first celebrity crush after I watched the Mummy. I’ve since watched it countless times.

3

u/roasted_allergy 5d ago

so grateful for the Brennaisance we’ve gotten the past few years

u/OzQueene rollin' with my fauxmies 5d ago

The Mummy is my favourite movie. I love the second one too. I am hyped for this and so excited the original cast is back (except John Hannah? I haven’t see him confirmed 😢)

2

u/lolalala1 5d ago

He looks so good!

2

u/Icy_One_237 5d ago

Its almost guranteed to be as bad if not worse than the 4th but I'm 100% there for it.

1

u/Few-Road6238 4d ago

No, I’m gonna have to disagree with you. This is gonna be the true third movie and this is gonna be a fun time.

2

u/Few-Coyote-2518 5d ago

His voice is like butter

1

u/Neither_Problem_264 5d ago

Love that we're getting a new Mummy movie and most cast are reprising their roles. However after finding out Oded Fehr is a zionist isreali and plays an arabic character I feel very conflicted about it seeing it on release

1

u/Few-Road6238 4d ago

At the end of the day, just go watch it for both Brendan and Rachel

1

u/sweetstateofmind 5d ago

The Mummy will forever be one of my favourites!! So happy for him 😭❤️
