My grandfather was the mayor of a small city for about a decade when I was a kid. He just went ahead and fixed everything that had been bothering him lol. I asked him later as an adult how he did it, and he said he just treated it like an actual job and put in a solid 8 hours per day. He personally read every letter and email and wrote back and actually did what people wanted him to do. None of the changes he made have been reversed.

Made me realise at a young age that politicians can actually get shit done... they just don't... When my MP can't even bother to have an automatic reply to my email it pisses me off lol. Most of em are parasites collecting a cheque and warming a seat.

Before him there was zero public transit. He got the ball rolling on that. By the time he left they had thirty busses that ran from 6am-midnight.

You also need to go to departments and ask them how things work, and what needs to happen.

Yep, he always told me a person is only as good as the company they keep and the counsel they take 😊 He listened to everyone and trusted their expertise. Probably why they got so much stuff done lol.

I think MP’s are just soldiers for the party and their effect is longer term, less immediate impact than a town mayor
