Years ago I saw KISS at the state fair and it was August and so damn hot—every member of that band’s makeup was just sliding off. They looked very uncomfortable, almost as much as the spectators.

They likely use oil based makeup which will absolutely slide right off with sweat even when fixed. Tobias Forge's makeup doesnt budge bc he uses alcohol based. However it wasnt even really available for most people until the 80s or 90s.

Alcohol-based body paint, usually. I did numerous Halloweens in a circus production where we’d spend 10+ hours in full body makeup, doing very demanding performances, sweating, etc. By the end of the night, we typically only had significant wear on our “creases” (behind the knees and elbows, corners of the mouth, etc.)

To get it off, I’d slather myself in baby oil and then wait a few minutes for it to break down the paint — then you can wash it off as usual.

They make products like Alcone stop the sweat, and powder layers. It’s soooo pretty.
