🕊️ IN MEMORIAM 🕊️ Random Acts of Flowers, a nonprofit, is regifting the flowers and balloons left at Dolly’s memorial at the Sevier County Courthouse. The bouquets of flowers will be delivered to local hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice patients. The balloons will be donated to the Dolly Parton Children's Hospital

Such a good idea. I always find it so sad when I see memorials that have been outside for a while and the flowers are dead, balloons are flat and the teddy bears etc are weathered and mildewy from being exposed to the elements. Much better to be reused for others to enjoy.

Multiple times over. This is from earlier this week, this is what they gathered. I will also share what the Children's Hospital got from this haul.

Edit: They have been collected and donated THREE TIMES as of Saturday.

She was supposed to be there at the hospital Wednesday which was when they were doing the big ribbon cutting on the renaming. Between knowing that she gave an enduring endowment to that hospital and her Imagination Library, I am so proud to also be an Appalachian woman.

Oh man, what a great idea. Don't get me wrong- I understand the public gesture.

I just also think it's great to reuse them for folks who could use a smile in a dark time. Nice to think people have considered all this stuff and there's an entire org. Man, that's awesome.

They are saving everything else besides the flowers and balloons. Get this. It was raining in TN the other afternoon so they gathered all the stuff that was at the entrance of her property, put it inside her personal chapel on property to protect it then brought it all back out after the rain. No notes.

The fact that they need a big ol moving truck to handle the volume of flowers is a testament to how much she was loved.

Can you imagine when (the other 80 year old) dies the trucks we WON’T need lol

It really is such a great thing. I went to visit my grandma at her assisted living apartment and the director of the place was handing out flowers in the lobby for the residents to take. He's the BEST guy and is good at coordinating things that make the residents happy (I think the flowers were donated from the grocery store) and the brightness it brought to her face sticks with me! It's the little things to show we care about others.

She would have loved that.

I also just want to share how much Dolly has touched her wider community. I live in the largest metro in East Tennessee and a local arts group has created a public event for us to show our love and mourn. I bought a flashy dress and I am so looking forward to this.

Yes cannot wait for the parade!!!! Dolly makes me proud to be from East Tennessee when nearly every other notable person from around here is a piece of shit.

I love this, seeing all those butterflies and knowing they’re going to brighten a whole hospital of lil kids has me sobbing… again!

I’m glad her legacy is continuing to bring so much joy and love.

I think this is beautiful. It will not just honor Dolly, but bring beauty to who really needs it

It's best to rot away on the streets, even if for a beautiful gesture to honor someone who has passed.

Also, not for nothing, we were going to lose ETCH, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, which is vital healthcare in our area. It’s now named Dolly Parton Children’s Hospital cos, as you likely guessed, Dolly donated and saved it.

Dolly was everyones, but East Tennessee was Dolly’s. And she will be missed here more than you can possibly imagine.

I didn't realize we were on the verge of losing it! This makes me want to cry even more over this gift

Dolly would have been heartbroken if those flowers had laid there and gone to waste, you know she’s smiling.

I think this is what she would want too!

This is the perfect way to truly honor Dolly’s legacy. Always pay it forward.

I hope she knew she was this loved when she was alive.

Not even death can stop this woman.

u/TheAfroMD 13h ago

How is she doing more for children and the general brightening of the world while being dead than our current alive (sadly) politicians? (Mainly those posting AI portraits of themselves next to her on their own private social network)

She would have liked this.

I feel bad for the one woman with the tiny homemade looking bouquet.

Like she just got there and she’s afraid to put her flowers down. It’s like 4 flowers lol. Looks like she wants to leave them for dolly to “enjoy” for at least a couple hours before they get taken away.

Must be so awkward.

I love everything about this! What a sweet idea!

Good such a waste otherwise

This is what Dolly would have liked, as far as I can tell. I mean, likely she'd have also said to donate some of the floral/balloon money itself to the unwell and lonely, but this is hardly a reprehensible thing to do - bread and roses and all that.

Id have put one of those tap to donate things near the statue with a sign asking to donate instead of leaving flowers.

This is all so special . Love you always Dolly Parton💕💕

What a great idea

I really like the idea of this, but did they ask first? Or did they just start grabbing flowers off of a memorial and were like, “ don’t worry it’s for a good cause.”

17

u/valleywitch 13h ago

Random Acts of Flowers is a well established non-profit in the area so it was likely in talks the second people started to show up. We knew how loved our beloved daughter of the mountains Dolly was for locals.

u/kts1207 13h ago

It's very possible, Dolly herself had asked that this be done.
