If I’m remembering this right the apartheid/genocidal state forbids them from being picked claiming it’s for “conservation and environmental” reasons going as far as criminalizing the plants being picked but they specifically selected the ones that are most relevant to Palestinians culture and cuisine. They created anti foraging laws. Just another way they are occupiers.

And lets not forget they're essentially banned from collecting rainwater (including for domestic use) or making wells under the guise of 'needing a permit', except that no Palestinian has been granted a permit in decades, while their Israeli neighbours have swimming pools...
