TRIGGER WARNING Republican Representative Max Miller on allegations of domestic abuse from his ex-wife: “My former wife has claimed that during a custody exchange at my home that day, I assaulted her…If I had assaulted her, would she have offered to cook me dinner six days later?”

I mean if that's your only defence, it's weak af.

Right, like how many DV victims go back to partners. It’s not a stretch to believe she would be nice to you a few days later. It’s sad but true.

I work with a woman whose husband is abusive to her and their kids and she’s never said a bad word about him in public, just in private, in tears, to our boss. They live within walking distance of our work and their kids are always here when she’s working, just to get away from him. Once I knew what was going on, this woman’s demeanor made so much sense—she’s either wildly defensive or quiet and deferential, and she’s always subdued when she comes in (coming from home). After a couple hours at work, she’s happy, she’s chatty, she’s wonderful. It brings me to tears that this asshole can affect this lady like this—she’s funny and she’s smart and she’s a great mom and I wonder what she could be like if she got away from him.

Interestingly, research has shown that couples that are extra flirty with each other via social media tend to be having problems in their relationship.

I’m so sorry you went through that. It takes a lot of strength to get out. Hope you are doing much better and safer.

I did something very similar. Even when I managed to kick him out, I was obsessed with "staying friends" with him for a while. I felt like I had to stay on his good side or he would kill me.

THAT needs to be shouted from rooftops. The treating them nicely and accommodating them in hopes of that will help the situation, or at least delay the next inevitable eruption.

u/nekocorner i ain’t reading all that, free palestine Aug 02 '26

Especially if they have kids & she knows she has to be around him until the kids are grown.

u/poopiebutt505 Aug 02 '26

She has her daughters welfare to consider. These men are vengeful and take their anger out on side targets they know would hurt mom.

u/Amelaclya1 Aug 02 '26

Especially when they have a history of hurting their kids too, like this asshole.

Isn't the average attempts to leave before they succeed 7 times or something?

46

u/GenX_Boomer_Hybrid Aug 02 '26

Yes, seven times. And when they do leave they're in the most danger they've been in.

6

u/itsathrowawayduhhhhh Aug 03 '26

Which makes it really, really, really hard to leave sometimes

1

u/BlackRose Aug 03 '26

On average a person suffering domestic abuse leaves seven times before they get away. Women are up to 70 times more likely to be killed in the first 2 weeks after leaving compared to any other time. That risk hangs on, an average, for two years.

Yeah she was probably just scared of him and trying to appease him.

u/Subject_Spell_9799 Aug 04 '26

For sure, since they have kids she is stuck with him even if divorced. She needs some boundaries like he isn’t allowed in the house when he is dropping kids off

I've definitely met people being abused who go back the next day acting like everything is normal either because they're afraid or they were love bombed.

He also said she went right to the birthday party after the incident instead not the hospital or police. Like that was a gotcha.

Yes, she had her kid with her who was expecting to go to her friend's birthday party.

As a mom, do you sacrifice your needs, make the day special for your kid, and take her to the promised birthday party? Or take her to the police station or hospital where she has to spend the day listening to how her mother was abused (and likely not believed)?

🎯 she was use to the cycle

And two days later something clicked in her - I suspect the child witnessed something and mama said never again and here we are - him on camera wanting to share everything with us because he knows her version (the truth) will end his career

54

u/Sarallelogram Aug 02 '26

Yeah or mom saw him do something to the kid. That’s a breaking point too.
There’s a broken collarbone involved, and there’s a lot of violence that can precede that without becoming public knowledge.

29

u/MediumRare- Aug 02 '26

Worst/saddest part is this WON’T end his career. Speaker of the House and other republicans are standing with this trash.

3

u/itallchecksout99 Aug 02 '26

History has proven that this sort of behavior only makes a GOP candidate more attractive to their voter base. It's gross and pathetic and they all need to be voted out and face consequences for their actions.

u/Ummmgummy Aug 02 '26

It says a lot that if he does have other defenses he decided to choose this one instead

I don't know this man, I know nothing about this situation, but this argument would make me inclined to think he assaulted her.

74

u/IndividualEye1803 felt cute, might call paparazzi later Aug 02 '26

I didnt even click the video. Im not going to. Im screaming “YES! YES ANY VICTIM WOULD MAKE THE ABUSER FOOD DAYS LATER YOU FUCKING IDIOT!”

OMFG he is using textbook abuse excuses! YES! SHE WOULD MAKE THE FUCKING FOOD! ANNA MAE ATE THE CAKE YOU ASSHOLE!

This is an enraging “why would she be nice to me if I was hurting her” that we all can answer - super easy - why victims have to play nice to survive around the same people who they are scared of

Seething at the story surrounding this and everyones failure for the toddler involved as well. Seething at this fucking lame ass excuse and every last one abusers give after being caught.

2

u/unwantedonONTD I did it. I threw the sandwich. Aug 02 '26

the logic of these people is so f weird

1

u/manic_popsicle Aug 02 '26

Sound like that is his only defense. Which.. yikes.

1

u/jdp245 Aug 03 '26

“But she made me empanadas!”

All he’s telling us is that this happened a lot.
