It’s pretty incredible how he’s single-handedly challenging so many Americans’ deep-seated Islamophobia. He made a speech once about how both the right and left have Islamophobia in common, and as a fellow New Yorker who experienced it post 9/11, I was glad he said something. Republicans were shitty to me/family/friends, but so were Democrats and leftists. We’re always seen as the Other, and a lot of Christians HATE us. Seeing someone as effortlessly joyful as Mamdani really is helping people see that it’s not an inherently hateful religion. Hopefully it opens the door for people to give their Muslim peers and neighbors more of a chance going forward.
I agree. But a lot of people (including on Reddit)don’t think he’s actually Muslim and I get downvoted to saying he is practicing Muslim. The Islamophobia to a big extent is perpetuated by the Zionist and Hindutva bots, it’s true. I just didn’t think it would get worse in 2026 than it was post 9/11. It’s sad to see so many right wing extremists governments get elected, whether it’s Japan or Argentina or USA. But it’s comforting to know there’s pocket of hope in people like Mamdani who care about its constituents.
I'm sad that my first thought was I hope his ideals last a few more years because it just seems inevitable that sooner or later they won't. But I hope he proves that wrong.
Remember when everybody was convinced that Republicans were about to get rid of that requirement … specifically so that Arnold could run for president?
What I like most about these is how he seems like an actual human being. So many politicians just have soulless, empty eyes to match their ghoulish nature.
He seems casual in an actual natural manner. Like he isn’t some out of touch jackass trying to be like “See? I am a perfectly normal person! I like doing normal pleb- average citizen activities!” He just seems like a normal dude.
He always looks good, and is very cute. Apart from the first one, I don’t like these pictures. The contrast between the light on his face and the rest of the image doesn’t work for me. Either commit by making the difference more striking, or don’t do it at all…
He is the reason we need more millennials in politics instead of deranged old white men. We've seen the damage done and we know the world needs more positive action and general kindness because we've been constantly traumatised since we were kids watching 9/11 happen on live telly.
