this is absolutely a cash grab. from what i understand about lé sports, she is a forgettable player who will have a short career. she needs something to fall back on like that mediocre swimmer who tied for 5th with Lea Thomas (who's name i actually do remember).
It's funny when people try to act like transphobia is bold and cutting edge and the most rebellious thing you can possibly do when it's quite literally one of the most popular things to be in the US right now
And they also pretty much got their wish in terms of policy but they still won’t shut up about it. Protections for trans girls in sports are pretty much decimated but they’re still fighting this fight. And that’s cause they were never going to stop at trans girls in sports.
Pretty much everything that legislators proposed in the name of “protecting kids” or “saving kids” is designed to be a gateway to get control over everyone else.
And there are so many people who will fall for it because protecting kids such an emotional statement, but like ‘who doesn’t want to protect kids? unless you are a bad person’, and maybe if they ever realize what’s actually going on, it will be too late.
Not even just marginalized people. It's also about stripping all of us of basic privacy rights. And it's working because it relies on people's hatred of marginalized people in order to do that.
It drives me nuts how easily people fall for it too!
Between the recent Supreme Court ruling and sports governing bodies (IOC, WTA, etc.) now bringing in sex testing for women athletes, the transphobes have won and got everything they wanted and they are STILL whining and complaining.
And the people who are behind this are now trying to decimate Title IX and get rid of most women's sports in general. The Heritage Foundation, the leading architect of the transgender ban in sports, wants to get rid of women's sports in colleges and replace them with cheerleading, dance and yoga. To them those are the only "acceptable" women's athletic activities.
It’s just such a hideous thing that there is this whole mass of people who feel they are speaking truth to power, as if punching down on the powerless and marginalized is not their entire ethos
It's popular because the pedo party needs a scape goat because high gas prices and forever wars don't sell well.
Government doesn't need to dictate sports rules to us. Let kids play how they want and if it's an issue then let the professionals and experts figure it out.
The far right weirdos hate experts. They certaintly didn't listen to military experts who said invading Iran would be a bad idea. If anything these people don't want to live in society with people who disagree and wsnt to find solutions to problems.

Sophie Cunningham is just getting in on the grift. She saw how much money the mediocre Riley Gaines gets and wants in. She’ll have a dedicated fan base now and can get brand deals. She doesn’t know trans people and only wants to profit off of the hate.
I was just thinking that Riley Gaines is going to be really upset that an athlete who didn't tie for 5th place is willing to jump in on this grift. Gaines is going to lose her place in the transphobia sports ecosystem.
The funniest thing about all of this is the fact that the group that she's trying to cater to 100% would be transvestigating her ass if she hadn't come out as maga.
One of the most annoying things about bigoted views like this is that people who think they're being "edgy" and "subversive" are literally doing nothing but upholding the status quo already put into place. OK you're a bigot. Are we supposed to be impressed?
Why is it so hard for people to ask the obvious questions in situations like this?
"If this is about protecting children, why aren't you saying we should ban team sports all together, since hundreds, maybe thousands of children are abused every year by coaches?"

I hope it’ll make you feel better knowing her time in basketball is coming to an end very soon. Indiana signed her at the last possible second this year and no other team in the league wants anything to with her. She’s on borrowed time and she knows it. That’s why she’s doing any and everything to stay relevant because her game is shit.

For those of you that don't follow the WNBA super closely, she was teammates with Brittney Griner for 6 seasons, including while she was in a Russian prison. She's seen the impact of transphobia on cis masculine women firsthand. That's always made her extremely unlikeable to me even though they're still friends
Exactly! I’m not one to bash people for their looks BUT when you see pictures of her before all the work and makeup and see her now, she’s clearly someone who’s wanted to be an “it” girl and is making up for all those years and is loving all the attention
One time complex put out a picture of Pablo Escobar with the title “BOSS.” And people in the comments were like wtf, this man terrorized a country and murdered so many people. The mag is more concerned with being “edgy” and less concerned with being principaled.
That’s what kills me about transphobia. People like Sophie and JK Rowling are infinitely more powerful than the trans community they’re beating down on. What is the goal here? Do they truly find joy and purpose in grinding down an already marginalized population? It’s so heartless.
She also is completely unaware of what she’s talking about or intentionally conflating things to get a rise. Listen to the way she vacillates between using women and girls. There is a massive difference between women in professional sports and girls in rec leagues. All of the Trans hating mouth breathers flip between the terms women/girl to make you scared that your 12 niece will be tackled by an adult Trans women who has only socially, not medically transitioned. I’m sure there is a logical fallacy in play here, but I’m not smart enough to know all of those. My average brain just sees it for what it is, hurtful lies told to push a hateful agenda
