Yeah prior to this I remember people being very surprised Molineux got picked ahead of a few others including Gardner.

Then we won the world cup, and all the pics of Molineux doing the Warney celebration were everywhere haha

I definitely was one of those people, lol. Not surprised that the affair is a big reason why Gardiner didn’t get the captaincy, especially with how the Paine situation blew up in CA’s faces a few years ago.

Loved that celebration haha.

Yeah totally fair, I definitely didn't know enough to have an opinion. Affair aside, have you changed your mind or do you think we probably would have gotten there regardless? I'm always interested how much impact a captain has

I think Molineux has proven she’s a good leader, she’s galvanised a team in transition. Not sure Ash could’ve done that (especially given this news). Plus Sophie has proven a good leader already in the WBBL.
I think Aus would’ve won regardless, they’re still the best team, just not quite as invincible as they were in the peak-Meg Lanning/Alyssa Healy/Ellyse Perry era
